Listening to a selection from both albums, and this shit is great. "Don't Steal Our Sun, "Big Sur", "Whatever Happened to Corey Haim"....this is fun pop music.

Anyone revisit these boys lately?

I'm playing the Thrills right now, D. Haven't spun this in a long while.

estone, yeah man, been following them for a few years, good shit. the ep's were a bit rougher than the album, almost more Dylan'ish meets The La's.

I had seriously high hopes for these guys after "So Much for the City". I thought that was a great sunny pop record with a bit of pedal steel thrown in for good measure.

Then came "Let's Bottle Bohemia". I really tried with that record but it's nowhere near that first one.

I heard they were really under pressure from the record co. to put something out and capitalize on the pub they were getting for SMFTC.

It definitely sounds rushed.

First album is awesome in its gimlet-eyed view of summer's fun past, combined with a bit of melancholy and faded glory.

The second album sounded like songs were thrown together with a bit of pop culture reference and then played over discarded game show themes from the 70s. Like Derris, I just couldn't get into it.

I played the first one recently, and it stands up, fer sure.

I just played the two albums back to back and Let's Bottle Bohemia isn't as bad as I seemed to think it was. It's definitely not as warm and breezy as the debut, but worth revisiting.

I grabbed the first one offa half.com for 93 cents earlier. It's one of those records that I liked what I heard from it, but had forgotten about.

yeah, we saw them open for the pixies and yeah, they werent that hot.

I'll agree with the above about the first album being pretty good and the second being unlistenable.

Any word on whether they've got something else in the pipeline?

So, so true. I love their sound and still pull them out now and again. I saw them open for Gomez a couple of years ago and it was terrible. They had some problem with their equipment and had to play acoustic (which didn't seem like much of a stretch to me). They used that as an excuse to only play 5 songs and leave the stage. Gomez was good but I really paid to see The Thrills.

I don't even remember this. Like, have NO RECOLLECTION that they were on that bill. I did, however see them on a bill with Blanche and The Walkmen at SXSW a few years ago, and they were fucking TEGNIBLE. They too forever to set up, played like 4 songs, and kept switching instruments.

And then I saw the one dude (Connor Deezey) walking around in an open haze at some Filter Magazine party. I couldn't decide whether he seemed cool, or like he was trying too hard, so I spent most of my time chatting up some amazon and guzzling as many free Vodka and Rockstars as possible at 10am.

You werent at our seats because I was sitting by myself during their set. I guess you were galavanting around The Fox somewhere.

I saw 'em earlier this year (or was it late last year?)...I enjoyed their set. Very energetic.

Ahh, must have been around the time I was attempting to show it to LT in the line to the women's bathroom. And, trying to wait out other people to make sure I had the stall, instead of the urinal.
