Gangstarr is on the swarm. Brain Storm. I don't know how you can like all the shite hip-hop you do, and not be into Gang Starr. I like that comp that jewelz reccomended but you can't go wrong with the middle three albums. Songs like "Just to Get a Rep" and "Dwyck" were soundtracks to my life in those days.

Stick some shit in your ears, it'll be more satisfying. IMO the single most overrated band around these parts (and that includes The Stooges)

I'll never understand you on those bands. I can understand Wire post- Pink Flag because they got more artsy but your Stooges hate baffles me and, quite frankly, makes me hate you more than I already do.

Yeah, ignore the Senator on this subject (well, among others). For you (Mick), I'd say approach Wire in reverse order:

1. 154
2. Chairs Missing
3. Pink Flag

Songs to check out initally might be "The 15th" and "Map Ref. 41° N 93° W", two of their most overtly pop and proto-new wave songs. Both of those, like pretty much all the rest of their stuff, have really abstract lyrics, but they're catchy as hell. Also "Dot Dash" (which was included as a bonus track on older versions of the Pink Flag CD) is a good place to get hooked in. I may see if I can share these later if you want.

Also, I'm assuming here that you might be more receptive to the arty pop stuff than to the more acerbic, minimal punk of Pink Flag, but if I'm wrong, just jump right in with that one. It's my favorite of the 3.

I really have no idea, but then I don't know how you can like that styrofoam rap you tend to lean toward. I was listening to Brand Nubian and Disposable Heroes at that point, but Guru always just pissed me off to the point where I wasn't sure it Premier could salvage it. Plus, Jeru's solo albums blew. Maybe I'll pick up that comp sometime.

Caetano Veloso (only have 2 proper records)
The Birthday Party (big Nick Cave fan, but haven't heard any BP stuff)

Which LPs do you have? I've got a near-complete discography--missing a few early Aussie 7"s. I could throw a mix together for you, although Billy G posted a good'un recently.

While on the subject, I'll reiterate that the relatively recent Bright Yellow Bright Orange is a wonderful album.

Their first three Enigma albums--Ideal Copy, A Bell Is A Cup, and IBTABA are all excellent. I listened to Bell Is A Cup on my commute home today.

They started to suck real bad for a while--Manscape is unfathomably atrocious, and 3rd letter is unlistenable.

That said, all of Colin's solo albums are a treat.

Send and A Bell Is a Cup are OK, IMO. I like A to Z well enough, too, but none of them really stand up to the 3 original Wire albums.

I would like to check out Ideal Copy and IBTABA, though, and C. Newman's other solo stuff.

I find Send to be extremely dull. IBTABA is cool--I had heard Eardrum Buzz about four times live, and scoured every b-side looking for it.

I tried to make it as far reaching as possible. It's got some Boys Next Door stuff, a really dodgy cover of These Boots, some of their Peel Sessions, live stuff, whatever. Enjoy.

listen to the Boys Next Door song "After A Fashion" especially. It's funny how Nick Cave was making Smiths-esque music in 1977, predating Morrissey by quite a few years...a pretty good song though.

Boys Next Door, by most peoples' accounts, are/were an inferior band, but it's really weird how modern they seem, as in, how many bands sound like them today? That whole art-punk thing...

i put it in some semblance of a coherent order but i'm not sure if it transcended the zipping/YSI-ing process. You must've copped a Boys Next Door song first, 'cause BP sound absolutely nothing like The Cure...

It should play in the order you arranged it if the tracks are numbered and if Todd selects the "start of list" playback option (or its equivalent) in his media player.
