here's another "of the year" thread. This one asks, what's the most disappointing album released in 2006 you've heard.

mine is still "without feathers" by the stills

Paul Simon

Although I still, somehow, like it.
I just expected... more.

Probably either Zero 7 or David Gilmour.

I wasn't a Futureheads fan to start with, but even still News And Tributes is a tuneless, embarassing bore.

Sadly, I have a list of dissapointing records from some of my all-time favorite artists:

- Stereolab - Four Fab Suture (maybe liked one song)
- Morrissey - Ringleader of the Tormentors (Ick)
- Tortoise & Bonnie Prince Billy - The Brave And The Bold (maybe 2 songs I liked)
- Neko Case - Fox Confessor... (just so-so, I wanted to like it... but just can't)
- Ariel Pink - House Arrest (I was obsessed with "The Doldrums"... this is meh for me, not a direct I like)

Um, that tough because although it was disappointing, i was not suprised that they sucked. Pretty Girl Make Graves/Liars/Delays.

I think that Futureheads record is such a HUGE improvement on the the last "gimmick" album.

Your apology will not even be entertained, as I actually asked for that album.

Yeah, Polly, I listened to the Neko Case once, and haven't felt the urge to go back, though I still mean to. Otherwise, yeah, the Paul Simon, too, because of Eno's involvement only.

I was disappointed by Mouthus' "The Long Salt".

Yeah, but I could have thrown out a more serious warning. I had advance intelligence that a bomb was headed your way.

pretty much. HOWEVER... they have another album coming out this year, but it's all covers (covers of nilsson/lennon's "pussy cats"). i wrote about it here and will be posting a track up on a tune a day later today.

at least i get my walkmen fix.

How can anyone be dissapointed in a new Paul Simon record? Has he done anything in recent memory to make you think it wouldn't be crap?

Wow - I'm curious about this. Pussy Cats is up there with Neil Young's Tonight's The Night for an artist peering into the abyss. Doubt the Walkmen can even come close to doing it justice, but I'll definitely listen.

Yes.
Team up with Brian Eno.

I didn't even realize The Stills had a new album.

Mine would be Razorlight.

Songs from the Capeman would have been crap whether Brian Eno, George Martin, Phil Spector, or Steve Albini produced it.

that could have been such a great record had it not sounded so slick.

News and Tributes is definitely growing on me, I love about half the album now.

I guess the raconteurs album could have been better.
