What a silly thing to complain about today (9/11); but I was forced to listen to Yes on the way to work. It was an album called "Talk" -- I've never heard so many keyboard solos (ok, I guess I've heard 'em before but this album was so painful). Jon Anderson's voice is like nails on a chalkboard for me. I don't understand Yes the same way I don't understand Dungeons and Dragons and most sci-fi -- I think I'm missing that gene.

Anyway, all this so "the terrorists won't win" (re: ride-sharing). Tomorrow I think I'll have to whip something really odd at them -- any suggestions? I was thinking Diamanda, heh {evil laugh}.

I carpool with a 67-year-old man.
Usually, it's nothng but conversation in the care. But sometimes I'll crank up some Descendents, Iron Maiden, or something like that just to give him some shit. It's fun and he takes it well.

Ride-sharing = anti-terrorism? I don't get it.

Use less gas, become less dependent on Middle East.

If we use up all the oil, the terrorists have won.

No, we will have won because all they will have left to export is heroin.

USE MORE GAS!!!

(I now plan on keeping my house thermostat set at 90 this winter! I don't care how much it costs me.)

So do you actually like some of her stuff?

I have a pretty high threshold for wierd, grating, etc., but I sold my copy of Plague Mass. Is her other stuff different/better?

Sorry, I was being sarcastic. In actuality, Bush et. al. in the power base wants us to be depenendent on oil. Bush, being a born again and waiting for the apocalypse and all, doesn't care about future generations -- use what we can now, before the lord cometh. His backers, the money guys, care only about this quarter's financial gains. Everyone should go see "Who Killed the Electric Car."

Original point of my post -- I really dislike Yes, the band.

No, I agree the Plague Mass stuff isn't for the squeamish -- I'm more of a pop music kind of gal so it isn't my taste either. I do, however, have and like her covers c.d. The Singer and I used to have the one she did with John Paul Jones but gave it to a friend who was crazy about Led Zep. I saw her in concert twice, just her and her piano at a museum (she played two nights in a row) and it was actually a really great show. She seems like a real sweetheart -- me and some friends talked to her a bit after one of the shows.

Eh, it's not an awful album. It's not a great album, either, but it had some nice moments. But if you're not a prog-sympathetic person, I can certainly see why it would be painful to listen to. Yes has done FAR worse than Talk, let me tell you.

This is interesting, however - I often wondered how music is handled in carpool situations. I simply wouldn't play any were I driving - I know my music choices would drive people nuts (take today for example: Matthew Sweet's Altered Beast followed by Slayer's Christ Illusion.) But luckily I don't carpool because I love terrorists.

When I have to drive work people places, I stick with stuff like Nat King Cole, Duke Ellington, classic jazz...good music that's not going to piss anyone off. It usually gets a good reaction. Occasionally I'll throw on something like some old soul, delfonics or the like, if the person seems cool.

Because I'm prone to making mixes with Yes AND Galas on them.

The only people I ever ride in a vehicle with are my parents. They usually stick to their classic rock radio station but I'll occasionally but on something like the White Stripes or Ryan Adams that I figure they should like.

But no, of course not. If they haven't already heard the song a trillion times, they don't want to listen to it. Not to mention the fact that it was actually written and recorded in the past twenty-five years. Good lord.

This a.m. was Beatles White Album (albeit only a portion because the commute isn't that long) -- a triumph for all parties.

Yesterday I forgot to mention that second rider has a penchant for making mix c.d.'s which I would normally dig except that he has about 10 favorite songs that he keeps re-mixing (and he has no concept of mix c.d. "flow" -- sigh).

Haha.
I can never use the same song on another mix, unless it is for a special occasion.
