so far it is amazing.

White & Nerdy is impeccably just that. what a great tune - i may even have to track down the original...

those of you familiar with the Weird Al style know that he does outright parodies, but then he also does some songs that are not song-specific mockeries but style-specific ones (Dare To Be Stupid = 80s new wave, Trigger Happy = surf pop). Well this time he has taken on Brian Wilson's Smile-era sound to sing a song about his pancreas. BRILLIANT!

Canadian Idiot (Green Day parody) is classic Al

and so on.

this message brought to you by Bort and the No One Cares Coalition.

I care.
I used to be huge into Weird Al.
The most recent one I have is Bad Hair Day and I just sort of stopped buying them for no particular reason. I have all the older ones either on cassette or cd. Please rank a suggested purchase priority of the new ones.

'Nature Trail to Hell" off of 'In 3D' was always my fave real Werid Al song.

Perhaps the most underappreciated musical genius of the last 20 years.

Timmyjoe,

Alapalooza has "Frank's 2000-Inch TV" which is one of his best originals...he has many, but this may be in the top 10 or 15. It also has "Bohemian Rhapsody" - Queen's song done polka-style. other than that the album is skippable.

Running With Scissors and Poodle Hat were well-received by many Al fans, RWS probably has a longer shelf-life though. Again though, you might be better finding the gems and scrapping the filler.

I'd get this new one, Straight Outta Lynwood before any of the above though. Modest Mouse's "Float On" is used in the polka.

I am highly anticipating this album, especially "Trapped In The Drive-Thru." It seems to have some pretty awesome DVD content as well.

I really don't think this guy's that talented or a genius - but he understands effective parody very well and sure capitalized off of it.

And before you start citing original material, there's just no way that songs like "Dare to be Stupid" would've ever been popular on their own.

Running with Scissors has "Albequerque", which is a parody of "Dick's Automotive" from the Rugburns.

It's so odd because it's a joke about sixteen people got.

Spade - Not talented? The guy can play an accordian pretty well. If nothing else, give him respect for being able to play an instrument with skill.

I agree with your second statement, which is why it has been my life long dream to have Weird Al put out an album of new originals (even "normal" ones) under a new name/identity... Although the song "Dare To Be Stupid" specifically COULD be popular on it's own because:
1 - It was used in the Transformers movie.
2 - That guy from Devo hates it.

Flow - not sure if you are aware but Trapped In The Drive-Thru (his R. Kelly spoof) is 11 minutes long. It's almost surreal.

Spade, Al's written dozens of original songs. "Dare To Be Stupid" is one of his slightest. There are much better ones.

And what has popularity got to do with whether Al's songs are worth hearing or not? I thought this was the "unpopular music board."

Once you see my sweet moves you’re gonna stay amazed
My fingers’ movin’ so fast I’ll set the place ablaze
There’s no killer app I haven’t run
At Pascal, well I’m number one
Do vector calculus just for fun
I ain’t got a gat but I got a soldering gun
Happy Days is my favorite theme song
I could sure kick your butt in a game of ping pong
I’ll ace any trivia quiz you bring on
I’m fluent in JavaScript as well as Klingon

Even made a homepage for my dog
Yo, I got myself a fanny pack
They were havin’ a sale down at The Gap
Spend my nights with a roll of bubble wrap
Pop, pop, hope no one sees me
Gettin’ freaky
I’m nerdy in the extreme
And whiter than sour cream
I was in AV Club and Glee Club and even the Chess Team
Only question I
Ever thought was hard
Was do I like Kirk
Or do I like Picard
Spend every weekend at the Renaissance Fair
Got my name on my underwear

When we were in grade 11 my friend interviewed him and then proposed to him. They were wearing matching converse sneakers. He told her: "In 15 years".
