I love the choice we have in this market. We can get an iPod, an iPod Nano, an iPod Mini, an iPod Shuffle, or a video iPod.

The battery life is a serious bump. And 20,000 songs?! That's madness.

I've had my 30gb for a year, and I still have another 10gb free space. I think I'll hold off on that. But it does sound pretty sweet. It'd take me until I'm 30 to fill 80gb.

Fuck, that's almost an external in your pocket,

And shmoo, you have other choices, they just suck. If anyone could come with the real against Apple, it would probably help.

It's too bad The Apple Store won't let you trade-in your old model, like a car dealer or something. I'd definitely be up for swapping out my 60GB Video for the new 80GB, provided I could get some sort of credit for the old one ($150?).

Is it any thinner than the current iPod videos? Or the same size?

I was waiting all morning for news from the Apple press event and was thrilled to see those magic numbers come up . . . 80. Now I know what I'm getting for Christmas. The gapless playback and game-playing abilities are just bonuses - I have been holding out on a new Ipod solely for the 80gb mark. Now I'll be able to carry nearly 2/3 of my music collection with me, which should suffice . . .

New Itunes also looks nice - it finds the artwork you're missing, plus reorganizes stuff into a better mess than it used to be, from the screenshots I saw a bit ago.

It looks to be about the same size as the 60gb - 2.4 x 4.1 x .55 inches.

This is the type of shit that pisses you off when you JUST bought a nano, and now these fuckers drop the price, add more colors and an 8G model.

I love Apple, but I'd like to rock Steve Jobs in the fucking grill right now.

my company discount will get this down an almost manageable number...but think of all the time it would take to load the music. damn. plus i think my laptop is only 80 gigs.

Good News: I just called my local Apple Store, and it turns out they DO have such a trade-in program.

Bad News: It only gets you 10% OFF the purchase of a new iPod. Yeah, my 60GB Video iPod may be almost a year old, but it's DEFINITELY worth a lot more than $30-40. What a ripoff!

So, does this new one still not have integrated voice recording or a built-in radio tuner? When are they ever gonna get with the program and add stuff like that?

Dear Apple,

20,000 songs still isn't my entire library. Try again.

Sincerely,

Matt

Dear Matt,

We still don't give a fuck. We're selling these things like hot cakes.

Sincerely,

Apple

I felt that way about my 40gb when I first got it, too. But now I have 140gb of music on my harddrive at home. Within a day or two of filling up my 40gb with what I think I want on there, I quickly realize that there are dozens of things that I left sitting at home. Then I have to carve out some time to figure out what I don't want on my Ipod so I can fit something else on, then grab what else I do want (adding in more time to figure out all that, too.) I see people scoffing at the notion that someone "needs" this much space, but when you have to do this several times a week, it gets pretty old pretty quick. Not to mention it's time I'd really rather spend with my daughter . . . or just not on the computer, and instead in front of the TV, reading, eating, sleeping . . .

I have actually figured out that 80gb is about enough space for what I figure is the "essential" stuff. I have way more stuff ripped than I listen to, but I have way less Ipod space than I need. Apple may have finally solved that problem.

But honestly, I have a mini with 3 gigs, and it "forces" me to rotate the tunes in and out, so I have fresh shuffle selections.

Oh, and on a related note:
Can one take ipod stuff off an ipod and burn it to a c:/ drive?
Remember when I was complaining about my internet favs...some of my emusic was lost too. :(

I think that maybe it's time to give my second generation a rest and trade way up.

Now all I need is some money.
