yeah, but once the music is loaded you're good to go, for a long time.

also, my mother-in-law get's a hearty 30% discount on Apple products from her work. time to hit her up :)

eh, I hate 39 of the gigs that I have now. At least it feels that way when it's on random on the way home.

Yeah, I've never once wanted a radio on my Ipod. It'd just be one more thing to make the Ipod bigger and more expensive. As for voice recording . . . I guess it would be nice if it were there, but I honestly can't think of a single time in the past two years of owning my 40gb that I have thought "Wow, I'd like to record that!" Now a line-in for use with some sort of high-quality microphone or output from another audio device . . . that would be very cool.

Kudos to Apple for introducing gapless playback. I don't know how you iPodders have lived so long without it.

An 80gb mp3 player for that price is almost too good to pass up. I'll wait until Rockbox supports it before I get one though. I'd love to be able to fill one up with FLAC albums.

I use the voice recorder on my iriver, and also the radio occasionally, and have recorded a few things off the radio as well.

So as much as I like the new features, I won't be tempted to change until these things are included

I'm really glad now that I decided to buy a Nano instead of a 60G when my old 20G died a few months ago.

The Nano is perfect for the gym and doing lawns but this motherfucker (when and if I actually get one) looks like the bomb for the truck, trips, and gigs.

If they add more gigs of music to it though I'd totally be on a combination portable XM/Mp3 player like the Inno

targeted for april, 2007 to replace my 20gig rio karma, which now hum-reverberates some times when placed in its dock. best case scenario, it implodes in february, i take it in to best buy under its extended 3 year warranty & it costs too much to fix & they say "we'll credit you $300 to another mp3 player".

happened with my last printer, upgraded from c84 to r220 at no cost, and almost (just missed the warranty period on its second repair) with my last dvd player.

anyway, my rio is lucky to last a few hours now without its charger and occasionally locks up powering up or down. i'm pretty sure it's going to die within the next 6 months, just hoping that's feb and not mar (when i bought it in 2004).

i had an archos before that which was even buggier and bigger/heavier. i'd love to try out and ipod competitor but it's the best product out there right now for 60+ gig & price.

That 20,000 songs is when they are encoded at 96K, right? I can barely get 5000 on my 30G

Generally, I think they rate it at their standard 128k AAC files, 3-4 minute long songs. It's always YMMV, of course.

i can do about 3500 on my 20gig rio at most-hi-vbr and some 192-cbr, so 14k on a 80gig would work for me. i'd be able to put my top-half favs plus a year's worth on there at a time. :)

dumb question...
if i rip a cd to mp3 does code get put it that it needs to be gapless?

or does this new "feature" run songs all together whether or not if there is a "real" gap or not?

gapless playback just means that the player inserts some dead noise between tracks. you dont have to do anything differently when youre ripping, since its the player thats inserting the dead noise.
