one of my best friends is going through a nasty breakup, and i'm working on a mixtape to cheer him up. i'm looking for stuff more along the lines of "fuck you" and "i'll be allright" as opposed to "my girlfriend dumped me and i'm really really sad." stylistically he's all over the map (mostly listens to classic rock and gansta rap) but he's not a big fan of stuff thats too weepy.

off the top of my head, i'm starting with these two tracks:

harry nilsson - you're breaking my heart (so fuck you)
allen toussaint - get out of my life woman

drop some knowledge on me and help a miserable fellow.

Morrissey, in a very non-weepy moment, from his album "Viva Hate":
(featuring the best line... in bold)

"I Don't Mind If You Forget Me"

I dont mind
I dont mind if you forget me
Having learned my lesson
I never left an impression on anyone

So now you send me your hardened regards
When once youd send me love
Sincerely I must tell you
Your mild best wishes
They make me suspicious

I dont mind
I dont mind if you forget me
Having learned my lesson
I never left an impression on anyone
The pressure to change, to move on
Was strange
And very strong
So this is why I tell you
I really do understand
Bye bye

I dont mind if you forget me
No no no no no no no

You can only be strong for so long
It may not eat you but it will beat you
So this is why I tell you
I really dont understand
This time

Rejection is one thing
But rejection from a fool
Is cruel

Rejection is one thing
But rejection from a fool
Is cruel
And I dont mind if you forget me
I dont mind if you forget me

All's got some:

From Allroy For Prez

Wrong Again

So much dirt has been thrown
I thought it was buried
So much time has passed
I thought it over
So mnay slurs have been made
I thought it couldn't be much worse
I thought once again I could trust you
Wrong again
Now I know you'll never let go
Now I know we can't be friends again

You pray for my damnation
I pray I'll never be like you
But I won't offer you my absolution
Did you really expect me to?
This is my way of walking away
Now I close my ears to your lies
Any faith I had in you is gone
Now I know your words disguise
Wrong again

Enjoy your hate; I'll regret my pity for you
Too bad you turned out wrong again.

I Hate To Love

Her glance can make you short of breath
Your heart stop dead inside your chest
She hasa what words can't express
She gives a kiss that's cursed and says-
"I hate to love"
A word, a song, a smile, a tear
She doesn't care for me, it's clear
I'll never tell
It hurt like Hell
To see her turn and disappear
I hate to love
I hate to love

She's laughing beside someone else
And I'm alone beside myself
She's like no one else
Hung by my rope
Strung out
Hurt
Let it drop, it just won't work
Stretch my neck across the block
Heart in my hand, axe in hers, (while she says)
"I hate to love"
I hate to love
So I do without
And die within
Once we were two
It wore too thin
It just wore too thin
I hate to love
It hurts too much
Everytime
The time is up.

All's got some good ones- have you got any of their discs?

To the one true God above:
here is my prayer -
not the first you've heard, but the first I wrote.
(not the first, but the others were a long time ago).
There are two people here, and I want you to kill them.
Her - she can go quietly, by disease or a blow
to the base of her neck,
where her necklaces close,
where her garments come together,
where I used to lay my face...
That's where you oughta kill her,
in that particular place.
Him - just fucking kill him, I don't care if it hurts.
Yes I do, I want it to,
fucking kill him but first
make him cry like a woman,
(no particular woman),
let him hold out, hold back
(someone or other might come and fucking kill him).
Fucking kill him.
Kill him already, kill him.
Fucking kill him, fucking kill him,
Kill him already, kill him.
Fucking kill him, fucking kill him,
Kill him already, kill him.
Just fucking kill him! Fucking kill him,
Fucking kill him already, kill him.
Ah Fucking kill him, fucking kill him,
Kill him already, kill him.
Kill him already, kill him already
Kill him, fucking kill him.
Just fucking kill him, fuckin kill him,
Kill him already, kill him.
Fuckin kill him, kill him,
Fucking kill him already, kill him.

Kill him, fucking kill him,
Kill him, just fucking kill him.
Kill them already, kill them already,
Kill him.
Amen.

- Shellac

"Loosing You Was the Best Thing"
(c) 2006 Todd Leiter-Weintraub

When you walked off and
Left me behind
You left a broken man
A man without a future
A man without a plan
I stumbled onward blindly
Into the nearest bar
It was there that I would find her
She was everything you aren't

That's why...
Loosing you
Was the best thing that ever happened to me...

Hell yeah, it's a Country song!

You gotta start somewhere

Todd, it's LOSING, not LOOSING.

Yeah, my spelling sucks.
And it's gotten worse since the invention of SpellCheck.
Thanks.

here's one i wrote recently:

------------------------

You said "That's not the direction I am headed in", But even if you weren't looking down that road, I could see the worn carriage ruts in the shapes of your body's cusps, and I breathed in the dark, earthy soot that the air carried from down there. I swore I could see your nostrils tremble, as if you smelled something too, but you simply put your head down, and buried your prized spontanaety in your food. Here was something attractive and tasty in front of you. I sat on the other side of it, an arrangement which I was coming to learn suited you. I in my weakness just wanted to feed it to you, follow you, then be there to nurse you when you threw it all up.
