OK, it's been nothing but tears since I upgraded to version 7 earlier in the week...I still can't get iTunes to recognize my iPod and I've tried pretty much everything...so I'm ready to kick iTunes to the curb

the only thing I use iTunes for is moving songs to the pod and for managing podcasts...so that's really all I'm looking for

I know some of you use the iTunes alternatives...are they any good?...are they free?...any major drawbacks?...throw some recommendations at me people

try Ephpod. It's free. I've been using it for years instead of iTunes. It's great for moving things to/from your iPod, as well as for editing mp3 tags.

Anapod Explorer is great, but it costs. You'll also have to downgrade your iPod software back to the pre-iTunes 7 release (edit) until they have an iTunes-7-compatible release.

I've been having trouble burning disc since we updated. It works fine under her profile, but won't recognize the burning software in mine. I had to use Windows Media Player today to make a disc.

Yamipod has Last.fm support. Just an FYI. I'm sure some other programs have that, too, though.

this is one of the things I tried early on and it pulled the same crap with me

but I played around a bit and I got it to work!!...here's what I did:

- go to your iTunes folder (should be in your My Music folder)
- rename the new 7.0 library (iTunes Library.itl) to something like "iTunes Library_7.itl"
- go to a folder called "Previous iTunes Music Libraries" in your iTunes folder
- then copy the old library ("iTunes library - some date".itl) from "Previous iTunes Music Libraries" folder to the iTunes folder
- rename it from "iTunes library - some date.itl" to "iTunes Library.itl"
- then re-install the older version of iTunes

and now iTunes recognizes my pod and everything else seems to be working too...all is right with the world again...bout fucking time, no thanks to Apple

so try this Dri...it should fix your problems...let me know if you can't figure out what the hell I'm talking about...and this is assuming you're on a PC...should be a similar solution if you're on a Mac though

i decided i'm done with 7.0 until they fix the glitches. as much as i love the new interface, i had problems with burning cd's (wouldn't burn the whole tracks) and the playback was horrible (sound was distorted).

BUT - i figured it out... re-installed itunes 6.0 4.2 or whatever. then deleted the itunes.library.itl file and it worked. recognized my ipod.

the fun part is reuploading all 60 gigs of my music back on the pod. i'm so ocd, this is going to take me forever.

so much for studying, thanks apple. jerks.
