Holy cow, has it REALLY been 20 years? God.damn.

Bjork's former band celebrate 'Birthday'

Influential Icelandic Eighties indie band The Sugarcubes are to reunite.

The band that featured Bjork as singer are to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the release of their classic debut single 'Birthday'.

The Sugarcubes will play a one-off date in Reykjavik on November 17. It will be the first time they have been on stage in 14 years.

According to a statement on Bjork.com: "All profit from the concert goes back into Smekkleysa SM, who continue to work on a non-profit basis for the future betterment of Icelandic music and artists."

The Sugarcubes were the first big band to emerge from Iceland when they released 'Birthday' in the UK in 1987, followed by their seminal debut album, 1988's 'Life's Too Good'.

The band's are also remembered for 1992's 'Hit', after which they disbanded. In 1993 singer Bjork released her breakthrough solo album 'Debut', an NME writers' album of the year.

This is cool news.
It would be cooler if they would actually record together, though.
I liked the Sugarcubes.

As long as Einar doesn't sing (if his "vocals" could be considered singing). He was annoying.

They should do more than one date, even though they would never play close to me and ticket prices would be quite pricey.

I thought Einar had gone crazy or something. Maybe I'm thinking of the guy from Ace Of Base.

I actually liked some of Einar's vocals, as long as they were kept to a minimum. It's one of the things that really made the Sugarcubes more intriguing to me than Bjork's solo stuff.

Basalt cluster,
Bottomless dust, terrific sun,
And wetting quite nicely thank you,
I do say nicely,
I do mean that,
Actually.

But then I bought myself a
Small rubber dingy when she told me
He who was up a mountain
Because she wanted everyone
To give her, love and affection
Her breast was, great and soft
Incredibly great, great and soft
And could squirt, a long way!
A great distance!

Did you ever see them live? Einar needed (still needs?) to be put away in an institution where he can't do damage.

cool to see them playing a show now, even for just one night.

Gone crazy?

I like:

Limousines, oranges,
Stars, moons,
Submarines, Jeeps,
Glaciers, Cars,
Caterpillars, even grapes
I've got to eat something
Otherwise I'll just die
But the choice is too great
I can't decide what to eat
I'll possibly just eat the menu?

hehheh "even grapes"!

I was just thinking about the Sugarcubes. I loved Bjork. I guess the first time I ever heard her sing was with 808 State... but then shortly after I heard "Hit" which is wicked.

The "Greatest Hits" was a very good idea though.... the songs of those records are so hit and miss.

I went to that same exact tour here in LA. Had a blast!

I saw them on that tour (with New Order and PiL) too, but in Kansas City.

Well I've just got back from seeing it and it was GREAT. Bjork's voice is as great as ever, in fact possibly better, Einar now has hair, and the music for the most part was spot on.

A lot of the people in the crowd were from the UK or USA. The local paper the next day reported over 1,000 people flew in to see it.

I have youtubed two songs here:

sometimes I start singing "birthday" for no reason. It just pops into my head and leaves after a few minutes.

Great band.
