Rocking my ass. Don't know much/anything about them other than what a shortish review told me, and what allmusic has here:

I want to say they are from France? 'From The Sky' an awesome track on the album btw.

Damn, thanks for pointing them out. Saw their name in a local store's zine and got a kick out of their blurb mentioning a "French extreme metal band," but they are hardly "just" an extreme metal band - way too intelligent based on what I'm hearing from the stream of their album on their site (Pelican mixed with Mastodon is what I'm getting.) Gonna have to pick this up.

John Darnielle posted something on Last Plane to Jakarta about how he was pissed that the indie press was going crazy over the new Mastodon and ignoring this Gojira record. I've always trusted Darnielle's opinions on metal, so I've been meaning to check this out. Sounds pretty massive so far. Not as thrashy as I had hoped, though.

(Though I think anyone and everyone should go crazy over the new Mastodon record. I think the new Mastodon could usher in a new era of world peace. Like Wyld Stallyns in Bill and Ted's.)

sometimes i call Sadie 'Gojira' where I'm holding up her front legs in a threatening manner as she's walking on her back legs, and then I do the voice over of the scared Japanese citizenry, screaming Godzilla's name in their amusing accents.

glad you picked up on it. I didn't want to start throwing out Mastodon as a reference because I feel like some people who dig Mastodon might not dig this, moreso new converts though.

El--Yeah, I'm surprised this hasn't gotten the exposure.

Picked up From Mars To Sirius over the weekend and have now digested it a couple of times. Yeah - I love the new Mastodon, but I think this is better. Maybe the best metal album of the year, in fact, but I'm not prepared to say that "officially" until I've heard this a few more times and can see if it has staying power. But it sure as hell feels like it does - it grabbed me right away and surprised me each time I've listened to it. Truly amazing album.

Also just ordered Kayo Dot's Dowsing Anemone with Copper Tongue, which I hear is truly bizarre and sounds quite intriguing from the clips on their site, but it's a hard stretch to really call it "metal" - but that's what everyone else calls it, so . . .

Is it cool to rip off shitty Journey album covers now? Holy shit that's bad cover art. 99% of obner's mix covers are better than that and I'm including the time shiv just photocopied his dick and sent it out.
