FUCKING BLOWS. I can't put music on to my ipod anymore, and it froze for 9 hours yesterday until the battery ran out. this is bullshit, and I can't describe how annoyed I am about this. I think it just did the same thing.

I noticed from reading the Ilounge forums that a lot of people had problems installing, and when I installed, it did a weird thing where it looked like it was done installing, but I had seen a brief error message come up, so I went ahead and reinstalled (without uninstalling anything.) When I did that, it went through a much, much longer install process and I was pretty certain that had i tried to run Itunes after that first install it would have been a disaster. It's working fine for me and I'm on a seriously aged computer (6 years, 256mb ram.) I'm wondering if maybe that's what is happening for a lot of people. Have you tried simply reinstalling (without uninstalling) to see what happens?

I waited until iTunes gave me a prompt to start it, rebooted, and everything's been fine for me.

it won't even give me the option to reinstall. It just has "repair" and uninstall" I did the latter, then I installed it again. it took about a minute. Then I "repaired" it, whch took about 30 seconds.

my ipod, which is still plugged in, still isn't showing up on itunes.

is it possible that it's the new software on the ipod itself? man, I hate this shit. it was working fine. better than fine, actually. The one time I'm like "i bet they worked all the kinks out of this one, what with people running out any buying the new ipods, right?

steve jobs can kiss my shiny black ass.

That sounds suspicious - this is a huge program and should take longer than that to install. Granted, my computer is sloooooow, but this Itunes is like the biggest yet. It didn't take forever to install, but it should be a pretty sizeable install.

This has me concerned - I think you're not supposed to have your Ipod plugged in while installing Itunes. I'd shut down your computer, disconnect your Ipod, then restart, uninstall Itunes, reinstall, and then connect your Ipod. I'm not sure Itunes will recognize the Ipod if it's been plugged in the whole time because it's acting like an external harddrive (maybe if you leave it plugged in when you restart, Windows gets to see it first as a drive before Itunes gets to see it as an Ipod and that screws something up - you never know. We're talking about Windows, afterall.) I always disconnect my Ipod before shutting down, even if I plan on doing something with it in Itunes after restarting, just in case.

I went to update up iPod and it wouldn't work because there's that new upload iPod page thing and half of it won't fit on my screen for some reason and there's no scroll across bar. So i had to delete all songs from my iPod and start again and it's only 20GB so it's full and i only select the albums i want on there and i made SURE that i had 'selected songs only' selected. but it still uploaded the un-ticked songs onto my iPod. so now there's no artisits from W-Z on my iPod...
No Yo La Tengo :(

"A bad apple" maybe.
Also don't forget your Registry. Fortunately my new itunes started working just fine after I completely cleaned out every registry "leftovers" from all that 'install' / 'un-install' / 're-install'.

CNET has an opinion product review which pointed out (importantly) that the new itunes is extremely chip-intensive which makes it at times 'unstable' for middle and low-end systems at least for now.

Dri, did you have any luck finding an older version? I've given the fuck up and am now trying to find an older version as well.

you can't add songs to your ipod with IpodUtil, can you?

Got the ol' 30G, and it's good. Anapod released a new corresponding version as well, so I'm pleased.

back in itunes 6 and everything's tip top. I'm not all that upset about losing whatever features there were.

I have a 30GB video, and I tried uninstalling/reinstalling several times. I also didn't have any registering stuff outstanding. What really pisses me off is that when I installed 7 it made me register the same computer that I had for 6 so I could listen to the songs I'd previously bought. Now I've got one computer left to register this bitch on. fuckin' a.

itunes 6.0 4.2

that's the link i used. only thing is- i had to restore my ipod again (so you will lose all your music) and install another ipod updater. it was a friken pain in the ass but now my pod's back up and running so i'm back in business.

as much as i love the layout of the new itunes, i'm done for the meantime.

i still have the 1st, 5gig ipod (with the actual spinning wheel) and i've never had a single problem <knock on wood> other than the battery wearing out--solved that one with a new battery for $12 on ebay. woo-hoo.

meantime mlle's 4g ipod has crashed like a million times

My IRiver has been fucking up lately. It'd be all charged up and would play for maybe 2 hours (if I was lucky) and then just die on me. I e-mailed IRiver about battery replacement and they basically told me to fuck off and look on the internet, which I did and found that I could get a battery for like $30 and install it myself, which I may try.

Yeah, I haven't yet experienced any of the horror stories many have encountered with iT7. It took a while to process the gapless info the first go-around, but I just let it do its thing while I watched TV, etc. Maybe it's because I've got one of the recent generations or something.
