Could be because Dick, Don & George are deluded little pricks.
My wife's a Repub and she stopped being loyal opposition ages ago. At least regarding this specific administration.

I need to stop being faux nice on here. I realized it was how you padded your post count, but I also figured there was some genuine niceness behind it.

Don't you have some speculative football thread to start?

I am totally confused by what "loyal opposition" is supposed to mean in these comments. My understanding is "loyal opposition" is the party out of power, who will disagree with policies of the party controlling the Executive (and Congress), and the dialogic struggle that ensues is for the good of the Republic. These new Republicans are such sticky-butt wimps in this realm... always crying about a "lack of patriotism" of anyone who questions the Devil's policies (huele de sulfer aqui!!).

Gimme an old line Conservative like Goldwater who knew how to have a real argument.

Exactly. My wife has no interest in being Dubya's fluffer. She can't wait for him to get out of office.

That shit looks GOOD. Can't wait for it.

The most annoying thing on obner, besides people complaining about how annoying it is, is the lack of reading comprehension, and the people who complain about our "schtick" yet never manage to come with anything original, funny, or thought provoking.

After reading this thread, I've concluded that Obner would be a better place if we could pay Rodney to be the official Obner Thread Czar.

i meant loyal opposition to the overwhelmingly pro-democrat sentiment on the board (probably not the best phrase to use). i'm not talking kool-aid drinking bush supporters, just somebody to call us out every once in awhile. political threads on here seem to go "bush did something bad," "yeah thats right," (quote)"yeah thats right"(/quote), "in addition, here is another reason we are right," humorous video of bush doing something stupid, etc. i'm massively guilty of all of that stuff, it just gets boring.

anyway, this is pretty funny

I don't know. Some of the most vocal people in the political discussions around here aren't like that at all. I'm thinking of Fu, The Senator, oldbullee, and Billz primarily. None of whom are Bush supporters necessarily, but they seem to have a somewhat conservative lean, even though Loogar is supposed to be a democrat. They usually never hesitate to shout down liberal rants by other boarders.

I would agree that the board lacks any well-informed, articulate Bush supporters, but then I've only met three or four of those in my life.

I'll help you guys out with this one: Some of us who may or may not be supporters of the Democratic party think that the wholesale Bush bashing is stupid because we remember how stupid the fucking wholesale Clinton bashing was. And how neither one accomplishes anything except to solidify the supporters of the bashee and make the bashers look irrational. It also makes the basher look like an uninformed twit who knows nothing about how politics really works.

Believe me, I'll fucking criticize George Bush all day long, but not just because he's George Bush.

Edit: i failed 4th grade grammar

I don't really consider myself conservative but I do tend to be one of the more conservative Obners. I'd support Bush and argue for him if I agreed with what he is doing. I think it's just hard for anyone to support Bush and Rummy's handling of the war and other issues right now. I don't believe in supporting Republicans and Democrats but believe in supporting policies and positions. Cause in reality these dudes would be Charles Manson Party members if they thought it would get them elected.

In upcoming local elections, I know I'm voting for 1 republican and 1 democrat as of right now to give you an idea of my true politics.

The most annoying thing on Obner is not being able to tell who Phyllis Montana LeBlanc or Old Kingfish Lee are!!! If only we didn't have so many people based in Houma!

yeah, the political threads do tend to be a lot of "bush is stupid, and cheney shoots people in the face, i'm smarter than they are and i eat dog food" things, which is one-sided and annoying. and i'm probably the most egregious poster in this regard (though i like to think i'm at least specific with my reasons of disdain). but at the same time the administration lately is so much more flagrant in its wrongdoings and bullheadedness that it's hardly a surprise that most of us agree with each other. yeah, it does get a little presumptuous and childish, but in case you forgot, most of the people here are presumptuous and childish. should we have to point out exactly why radiohead is pretentious crap or what exactly makes verbal intercourse a ponce? because it's not like there's a lot of that now.

basically, we all think shit we don't like or agree with is annoying. but christ people it's the fucking internet. 60% of anything you read here is going to piss you off. so just don't read it. or do and complain back. That always works everywhere.

I don't know, maybe I am one of those guilty of the mushy anti-Bush rants that offend some. In fact, my opposition is specific and not in support of Democrats, though I do have this nostalgic attachment to democracy. But I actually find the political threads more interesting than the "what kind of shampoo do you use" or "you can't believe what my boss just did" or "did you watch that TV show" threads. Unfortunately, they are also more interesting than music threads recently... still seems like there was better music conversation in the old CMJ days.

Being meta-cognitive, and purple-prosed by nature, I enjoy the omphalos-gazing threads about Obner.
