Ok, now I need to hear why it's inconceivable that someone would be unfamiliar with this. To me, it definitely has its moments, but the percussion says "In the Air Tonight" and her little howling noise is a little weird.

hey phil, what do you think of the sweet/hoffs cover of and your bird can sing?

i usually hate all beatle's covers but i love this. especially with headphones on.

I love it too, except the bass note at the end doesn't slide up the octave and tremolo. Like, that's the end of the fucking song, if you're gonna cover it that well, I want the god damn cherry on top of the sundae.

Am I OCD?

I love that Stereophonics version of Don't Let Me Down, and The Vines cover of I'm Only Sleeping is the best thing they ever did (I hate that band, and to have a band I hate cover a band I hate to hear covered and do it well hints that they might not be total chodes).

I should also mention that POD does a great Marvin Gaye cover.

Video Clip of Jon Brion at Amoeba covering Radiohead's Creep as Tom Waits might do it.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a-pJF_ND ... on%20Brion

I'd like to hear The Jayhawks cover "I Wanna Be With You" by The Raspberries.

And I'd like to hear Earth Wind and Fire pull a "Got To Get You Into My Life" on "Joining A Fan Club" by Jellyfish.

I mean inconcievable in that it was her second almost-genuine hit in the U.S. and is one of the few songs American pop people reference regarding her (the others being "Don't Give Up," "Wuthering Heights," "Running Up That Hill," and "Cloudbusting").

It's not her best song, but it fits very well within the album's concepts.

Listening to XTC's "Statue Of Liberty", I think the Hives would destroy this. Howlin' Pelle especially.

awesome. I have never had one of my threads ressurected.

I would like to hear Beirut cover any song by the blue man group. That combination would be the worst noise you have ever heard in your life.

Here's the best cover I've heard in a long time. Not a re-imagining of the song or anything, but still:

As I'm sitting here listening to "F-Word" by Jens Lekman, it strikes me that My Morning Jacket could do an awesome cover of this.

Yo La Tengo did a great version of:
Jackson Browne - "Somebody's Baby"
when I saw them a while back.

I was kind of let down by My Morning Jacket's cover of PSB's "West End Girls."

yeah, this is wildly disappointing. i was expecting great things and it's weak. i chalked it up to "west end girls" simply not being a favorite song of mine.

They should have covered "Opportunities (Let's Make Lots Of Money)," instead.

While not the best cover ever, I found this to be "awesome"-worthy.

Bob Pollard and Pearl Jam covering "Baba O'Reilly".

These are the best covers never made:
Superchunk-Go Your Own Way (Fleetwood Mac)
Broken Social Scene-Born To Run (Bruce Springsteen)
Kings of Convenience-Autumn Leaves (Chad & Jeremy)
Sufjan Stevens-Reign In Blood (Slayer)

Heard a Three Dog Night song on the radio last night that's BEGGING to be covered.
"Shambala"

Who can do this?!?!
I'm thinking it might be a job for Hop On Pop.

But Yo La Tengo would do a helluva job on this too, if they haven't already.

Ass Ponys could definitely nail it, but I'm still not sure if they're even still together or not.

Other possibilities:

Ben Kweller
Brendan Benson
Calexico
Crooked Fingers
Deadstring Brothers
Dressy Bessy
Frank Black
The Gourds
Jay Bennett
Jim White
M. Ward
Marah
Pernice Brothers
Ron Sexsmith
Tift Merritt
Volebeats

M. Ward's cover of Green River by CCR is pretty good, I heard it on KEXP a while back.

Goddamnit, Bob, I can't hear Ted Leo, or Lido Shuffle, without thinking about this possibility. Join a fan club, start a fan club, put it on your blog, just MAKE IT HAPPEN.

My new obsession is Lucero doing "Sam Stone" ala Jason and the Scorchers' version of "Absolutely Sweet Marie"

(Why I am thinking of Sam Stone on Thanksgiving, please, don't even ask ;) )
