I have the next-to-newest generation iPod (just before the video pod), and any time I try to move an album from iTunes7 to the iPod, it has to scan through all 60gigs of music on my iPod for gapless playback info--takes 30 minutes each time.

Anyone figure out how to make this stop?

I had the same thing happen on my 4th gen until I just let it read the whole damn Ipod, and then it seemed content. It must be that if the files don't have the gapless info, it just feels compelled to gapless-ize them. Let it run through yours and see if that doesn't put a stop to it. I haven't encountered it running again since I accidently let it go on mine.

If anyone's interested, Apple's apparently well aware of all the issues and is working on an update to this Itunes already. Maybe they should have just QCd this version before releasing it instead? Probably not a real good time to have a public relations disaster like this going on - what with Zune ready to hit the stores. A bunch of disgruntleds might just make that "switch" that Apple's always talking about - in the opposite direction.

Yes. Just click the small circular "X" immediately to the right of the gapless playback info text in that box at the very top of iTunes.

But then it will begin the next time you drag a song to the Ipod. Let it have its way with your Ipod and it seems not to ever run through the gapless thing again.

when the hell are they gonna release a new version? This one is obviously a lemon, and they better fix it soon. Every time i switch between programs when iTunes is running in the background, the song that's playing goes all fucked up like a really badly scratched cd until i skip to the next song.

This and all that you've said below is happening to me right now. I don't have 9 hours, I have 7 maximum before i need to board and aeroplane, damnit. I plugged it in and my computer froze and now my iPod is frozen like a bitch and won't unfreeze no many how many electrical sockets i plug it into. I am not eating another apple or doing anything apple-related until my iPod works again. Yeah, take that Apple.

I went to update up iPod and it wouldn't work because there's that new upload iPod page thing and half of it won't fit on my screen for some reason and there's no scroll across bar. So i had to delete all songs from my iPod and start again and it's only 20GB so it's full and i only select the albums i want on there and i made SURE that i had 'selected songs only' selected. but it still uploaded the un-ticked songs onto my iPod. so now there's no artisits from W-Z on my iPod...
No Yo La Tengo :(

I would suggest NOT syncing the iPod to iTunes but rather dragging what you want into it manually.

I made a couple new playlists in iTunes: In The iPod and Add To iPod. Theoretically I could just sync the iPod to the In The iPod playlist only, but I just find it easier to not depend on this being good to me. Anything I put in the iPod I add to the "In The" playlist, and obviously I use the "Add To" to put newer stuff that needs adding. After adding I drag the songs to the "In The" playlist and delete from the "Add To."

Prudence dictates NEVER updating software (any software really) as soon as the update is released. Wait a few days for news about its effects from other users before blindly diving in. It's just easier in the long run.

I had my 30gb video freeze on me two weeks ago and had the same "do not disconnect" message on my laptop. found these instructions:
unfreeze has been working fine since.

Just updated mine this morning- I'll see what happens. So far, for the last six months it's been flawless except for the freeze two weeks ago.
