Dude was seriously hyped. Clinton looked liked a guy desperate to change the future perception of his foreign policy. But he was probably right about Fox coverage and questions.

I didn't think the question was that bad, but Chris Wallace has asked for it in the past before and Fox News has never shown Clinton the respect that a former President usually deserves.
I think Clinton is still pissed about the ABC miniseries and a little bitter about the 1998/1999 bombings of Iraq, that the Republicans referred to as a wag the dog scenario.

I think he's made a mistake by injecting himself into the story. I also don't really see what he thought he had to gain by showing up to be interviewed by Fox.

Fox agreed that half of the interview would be about the Second Global Initiative.

it was a thorough bitch-slapping. thinkprogress fact checked wallace's assertion that they asked the same questions to republicans on fox sunday morning---turns out not so much (i can dig up the link if anyone is interested). glen greenwald also takes apart the notion that clinton was a pussy in somalia--it was definitely the republicans who wanted to pull out immediately.

I think Clinton was actually kind of smart to go on there and act the way he did. The Republican types who watch Fox News are expecting all the liberal types to be mumbling whiners with no back bone. When he does this and comes out aggressive, it definitely proves to some of the independent minded Fox viewers that the Democrats can actually handle national security.

He ain't dumb. No way Clinton didn't go in with the expectation that Wallace would try to sneak a slider over the corner of the plate and zing him, get him all flustered have a good chuckle over it. Knowing this, Clinton went in intending to rip that guy a new asshole and make the kind of statement that Dems haven't had the balls to do since about noon, Sept. 11, 2001.

I miss that guy. Leaders who combine stones with brains. Haven't seen that in a while.

Oh you mean aggressive like Howard Dean?

All it did was give a soundclip that is distracting from GOP problems, though. The headlines are "Clinton loses cool" or "Clinton freaks out", not "Clinton Corrects Fox View of His Presidency".

There is still a huge gap between Bubba and Howard Dean. Dean is beedy eye crazy when he gets aggressive and comes off as a wacko to most people. Clinton came off more like Lloyd Bentsen during the VP debate with Quayle or in the same way the Republicans like to promote Dick Cheney and Rumsfeld on those shows.

Which I don't get. Who the fuck wouldn't fly off the handle if some pompous tool of the right-wing media tries to pin sole blame for letting THE terrorist idol of our time get away, but lets his homeboys off the hook for fallig asleep at the wheel.
Sure it wasn't pretty, but it was justified and Clinton showed a trait that's all but absent in his party; the willingness (even eagerness) to go after someone like a junkyard dog when they go barging over the line. The GOP have been getting away with that for almost 6 years and the only reason this is news is because it's the first time in too long someone has unequivocally put them back in their place.

FYI - Peter Chernin, Pres./COO of News Corp, has publicly threatened to pull Fox News from cable outlets if they don't get their $0.25 rate for subscriptions up to $1 (aka, it would sort of be considered a "premium channel")

It's funny that a cable news network thinks it is really worth that much to our society. They probably aren't worth a dime from my bill, neither are CNN or MSNBC.

As I recall -- & I'll grant you, this was seventh grade & I wasn't paying too much attention -- Bush dispatched an humanitarian militia, backed by Marines, to Somalia in the final six weeks of his admin. It was for sure after Clinton had won on Nov. 3, '92, and might have been within a week of Christmas.

Anyway, the more important thing to come out of that renewed awareness of Somalia was the classic saw, "What do you call a Somali with a yeast infection?... A quarter pounder with cheese".

I always heard that as what do you call an aneorexic with a yeast infection?
