So, I have a deadline of 10/27 to do my Year in Review piece. Looking at my 2006 Purchase list, I have pulled out 35 releases that stood out enough to warrant consideration.

I have a general idea of how the Top 10 will go; I may just list the other 25 as honorable mention since none really broke out from the pact.

Top 10 will Prob include these: (of these 12)
Wolfmother - s/t
jucifer - if thine enemy hunger
queensryche - operation mindcrime 2 (thursdays show bumped it for me)
black keys - magic potion
mogwai - mr. beast
khoma - second wave
giant squid - metridium fields
rise against - sifferer & the witness
brightback morning light - s/t
eighteen visions - s/t
bright light fever - evening owl
twilight singers - powder burns

the best of the rest:
kola koca death squad - s/t
dirty rig - rock did it
oh the horror - hands pressed against the glass
taint - the ruin of nova roma
damone - out here all night
tool - 10,000 days
dir en grey - withering to death
priestess - hello master
murder by death - del boca vista (or whatever it was called)
brian posehn - live: in nerd rage
feathers - s/t
valient thorr - total universe man
sword - age of winters
comets on fire - avatar
sikth - death of a dead day
hourcast - state of disgrace
agalloch - ashes against the grain
thom yorke - the eraser
black angels - passover
amorphis - eclipse
jesu - silver
pearls and brass - indian tower
goblin cock - bagged and boarded
neko case - fox confessor brings the flood (late entry)

how are your lists beginning to shape up?

Gotcha. I really liked their new one.

I am trying to think of some others that were raved about. The Appleseed Cast - Peregrine wasn't "raved" about, but a lot of people liked it.

Did you listen to that? Not into it?

Appleseed Cast lost me at the 'two conversations' records.

i had been a fan since the beginning and they (IMO) havent come close to touching 'mare vitalis' or the brilliant 'low level owl' releases.

new one didnt suck though.

Yeah, I agree with that. I think for myself Peregrine (IMO) was just so much better than Two Conversations that it stands out to me.

I think in the top five for myself is going to be Helios - Eingya. That's the only for sure so far. I have to think about the others a little more.

I have one album off that list. It's been a poor year of buying music for me.

From 9/1/05 to 9/1/06 or something? If we're talking all of '06, how can you do a year end review before the end of October?

i had never been a fan mostly b/c of the original waves of hype surrounding the band, but i have to say tvotr 'cookie mountain' is probably one of the most solid/interesting/enjoyable records i have heard in ages. i would def have it in my top ten, if i believed in such a thing.

Ditto, the Neko Case. And I love it. But still, I'm not gonna be able to offer much in the discussions.

I was SHOCKED to see this on your list.

I've got a lot of examining to do before I can even think about a year end list.

I've lost interest in listing/reviewing/best of-ing. But that's not to say I won't change my mind before January.

Greg Dulli reciting his grocery list would probably make at least my top 10.

that USAISAMONSTER is so much better than last years. Totally took me by surprise.

EggsfuckingZacLady

I keep buying but my free time to listen seems less and less to actually listen. I have things I've purchased from literally years past that I haven't given a proper listen. Hell, some I haven't listened to at all and probably never will.

I've purshased less in 2006 just because I want to make sure I'm buying something that will appeal to me and I'll make time for for the sake of wanting it rather than owning it. Makes me sad tho because alot of things in the past that was a "risk" to my music senses ended up being something I love.

Why I come here and see what people are talking about I guess.

I've still to Konstantirank Nina Nastasia (which is likely to be a Top 15) and M. Ward (sounding like a no.1). I've also yet to pick up albums by artists I've liked in the past like Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Walkmen and The Racontours, so there is the possibility they could get in. I'm also curious to hear Mastodon which I haven't up to now. Plus you don't know what you are going to discover in the next few months. My Top Twenty could be quite different by the time 2007 comes round. Shit! 2007?

Pretty much my half-year list (Tool, BtS, Willie Nile, Arctic Monkeys, et al) with TV on the Radio thrown at number 3 and maybe Pete Yorn in the upper teens / lower twenties. I'm not sure if Serena-Maneesh should count.

I also don't have Mastodon, Dylan, Johnny and/or Roseanne Cash, Graham Coxon, Charlambides, Bonnie "Prince" Billy, J Dilla (Donuts), or Art Brut. There's some catching up to do.
