Ok folks, time to turn us on to some new stuff you're feelin'.

For me it's gotta be Benoît Pioulard. He's a young chap, and his "Précis" release is just a gorgeous blend of acoustic folk and ambient. Incredible debut album.

Check out a tune here: Triggering Back

Pimp!
;)

Thanks, D!

EDIT: Listening now, and I can see why you're excited. This is damn good.

I'm impressed by Steffen Basho-Junghans. I've heard a couple records he put out this year, and particularly "Late Summer Morning" grabs me as a very pleasant record. RIYL: John Fahey, Jack Rose; acoustic music brighter that the two artists cited.

I don't know if I'm really excited yet but I found out about these guys through James Figurine...

It's funny, I realized I haven't posted about any new bands here in a while. Consequently, I've got a bunch, but some of them deserve their own threads ;)
In the meantime, I'm digging on a Brooklyn band that's been building a lot of buzz lately called Meneguar. Yes Dalen, their last record is a bit emo, but they're recording a new one and they're moving away from that sound and more into a choppy, raw, energetic kind of rock that reminds me of Joggers. Check out a tune here.

Arthur Russell

Quote:
This story begins, as many good ones do, with a gay man from
Oskaloosa playing cello in a closet in a Buddhist seminary.
It ends with a gentle and brilliant musician dying in New York
long before his time. In between, the cellist, Arthur Russell, wrote
orchestral music, produced disco hits, and recorded a body of solo
cello-and-voice songs that fit somewhere between lullabies and
art songs. source

Disco, pop, instrumental avant-jazz, experimental pop, and apparently a soon-to-be released country record. This man's music is so hard to describe. You really have to hear it for yourself. Although he was known in his time, much of what he recorded is only just being unearthed and released posthumously (he died of AIDS in 1992). I'd say the best introduction record would be "Calling Out of Context".

I'm obsessed.

i'm still listening to this record all the time. it's so fucking good, no need to apologize. Their hit "black grease" is my fav at the moment: when i hear that fuzzy bassline opening, i get an obner, and when the guitars come in a little later, i pretty much want to start dancing or something.

Gotta also shout about the new album from Phelan Sheppard entitled "Harps Old Master". Fans of Max Richter and artists on the Type Records label should definitely look into this. Sublime classical influenced ambient music that just takes you away. So beautiful and lush.

I'm all about Harvey Milk at the moment. Never heard of them until i picked up the new album and loved it, so i'm gonna have a lot of fun checking out the back catalogue.

After hearing a couple of 7" i am very excited to hear future projects from Wooden Shjips and Pink Reason.

Loving Art Circus new album, 10 teenage chicks from Nashville playing pure pop. It might be because i'm a bit of a perv though.
