I'd buy some Irish whiskey or scotch and beer, but I don't have that sort of wealth.

Take a cue from Dumpjack and get DAT JUG of Rossi.

Dump -- all of the extraneous shit is moved, movers come at 8:30 for the furniture.

I'll think about it, I'll never say I'm classier than the jug of wine, but I usually avoid wine without a cork.

Patrick, Patrick, Patrick, even good wineries are making screw tops and even box wines. I actually pretty much avoiid wine with cork these days...that way I can drink it straight from the bottle in the car on the drive home.

You should call Larry's Furniture Transit Protection Service to insure everything goes smoothly.

Either that or have Larry's other guys meet you at the house.

this is true. I was shocked to see my mom's collection has delved into screw-tops, but there was some good stuff in there.

There are many good screw-cap wines out there now---can't discriminate based on that anymore.

Excellent, sounds like it's been an all right endeavour. Let's just hope THEY do it right.

Here's the menu for the place I'm hitting tomorrow. Note tomorrow is all day sangria, so the fun starts early. I'll heave up a glass for your good fortune.

Although, to be fair to Promethium, there is huge difference between the screw tops we are talking about and DAT ROSSI or Boone's.

I am drinking a (corked) Estancia Pinot Noir my dad gave me. It usually gives me a headache, but what're you gonna do?

Oh, I know, I got a small jug of spanish red wine a while back that was screw top, but it was also $12 on sale at the classy liquor store near my apartment. It was a much better wine that the huge bottle of Livingstone that had a cork in it.
I almost bought a $10 box of chianti a few weeks ago rather than beer.

We're drinking a $28 Australian shiraz from Oliver Hill tonight---tastes like an $80 bottle---there are some really good deals on Australian wines out there. Highly recommended.

Really? Sounds interesting. I have a rule of thumb that if you pay over $20 and less than $80, you are getting ripped off. i.e. there is little difference between most awesome $15-$20 bottles and $45-$70 bottles.

That said, an $8 difference for a great bottle could persuade me.

Give this one a try, then: Oliverhill Winery, McLaren Vale, 2004 Jimmy Section, Shiraz.

Well worth every cent over $20 (paid $28.95 at the Utah State Liquor Store).

Here are the tasting notes I found on this vintage:

Quote:
As soon as the "Jimmy Section Shiraz" landed in U.S.A., the wine appealed to a number of the trade who swiftly ordered every case brought into the country. One person referred to it as "liquid sex" after tasting it. You get the idea. This is a sensationally voluptuous, rich, full-bodied, highly-extracted yet velvety-textured, old vine Shiraz with an opaque blue/purple colour, a spectacularly aromatic nose (black and blue fruits, creosote, smoke, and graphite), huge body, great concentration, and a compelling seamlessness. Given today's wine prices, it is an unequivocal bargain. Drink it over the next 10-12 years. (Robert Parker on the 2004 Jimmy Section Shiraz. 93 points)

Hah. That's where I discovered this wine. One of my friends brought this bottle to our wine club last month too---it was the wine o' the night for the price. Much better than far more expensive bottles that night. I went out the next week and bought 4 bottles for safe keeping. :)
