Anyone know what label they're on so I can figure out if/when they're likely to get a release here?

Downtown Recordings -- I believe it's the same label as Gnarls Barkley, if that matters.

So is that through a major?

My brother's got my copy of the Gnarls Barkley atm so I can't check the local distro

Per their website (www.downtownrecordings.com), they're an indepedent label distributed by Warner and Atlantic.

Thanks Aural. Hopefully that means it'll eventually make its way down here at some stage

This is pretty good so far. Better than CYHSY vocally and musically just in case anyone is worried about that comparioson (even though I must admit a few of their songs have grown on me--I'm a sucker)

Thanks for the unsolicited hookup, D.

i think people will see them billed with CYHSY and Tapes n Tapes and think they might sound similar, but that's just not the case. Cold War Kids have a more stripped down and raw indie rock sound, like a mix of americana, post punk, and early White Stripes.

I'm hooked after one listen. Such a great album. Some songs remind me of the Walkmen- vocally driven, reverb-y, atmospheric guitar. I also really like how some of his melodies sound like southern gospel hyms.

Just pre-ordered from deepdiscountcd. It's 11.97 there with free shipping. If this is even close to the EP's, it's gonna be great.

After listening to "Expensive Tastes" about 7320894732984 times in the last few days, I bought the album yesterday. Killer. Great album. I'm gonna wear this bitch out in the next week.

Weird. I think they have a serious blue-eyed soul and hip-hop influence running through their brand of earnest, American indie-fried rock.

Like nacho said, when I first saw them, I thought, hmmm... this is sort of like the Walkmen, in a way. IMO, they sound NOTHING like CYHSY.

Really? Pitchfork's been ragging on these guys in its news and singles columns for a while. I'm almost surpised they gave them such a high rating.

Although I do sense some possible jealousy with another taste maker in town.

i havent been following PF hatred - i usually just glance at the site briefly. honestly, i dont think i have ever read a full review by them.

typically if i see something on there that i dont know and they give it a high mark, i will usually check it out. other then that - thats about it.

i was a little surprised that p-fork decided to hate; they usually seem to have quite an appetite for literate stripped down bands. not that i think it matters too much in this case, CWK's incessent touring and live show will help them build their fan base regardless, even if they don't initially sell as many records...

i still like the songs on this record a lot, but really don't like the production. why couldn't they just keep the rawness and space of their previous EP? i guess i have a bit of wolf parade syndrome with this record

Pitchfork as a whole may like the album, but the reviewer made no point whatsoever. Terrible review. Oh, their lyrics *might* have some Christian themes running through them, and that makes them totally uncool.

WEAK.
