Whoa, hold up. I caught the Hold Steady blurb in the last issue of SPIN thru which I flipped -- I saw it at a grocery, about a week ago -- and I found out that 2/5 of the Hold Steady is 'Sconsin proud. (And, yes, from looking at 'em, they might be gay.) One claims Janesville, another claims Milwaukee. Just sayin'...

I don't care about jet, but it's amazing how quick everyone is to defend them based SOLELY on the merits of their OTHER ALBUM, disregarding the fact that this "review" was an ALBUM REVIEW, not a BAND REVIEW, which is something I'm pretty sure doesn't EXIST.

As usual, I will quibble with this.

I doubt that the reviewer listened to a note of the new album, and based this "REVIEW" solely on his pre-formed opinion of this BAND.

Well we don't know that about him, but we do know you haven't heard it.

Right, we do know that...and his "REVIEW" was so good that you can't even tell if he has or hasn't heard it.

I love how a 0 word review with no number rating has generated 3 pages of discussion here.

It's just a joke, people, not your performance review at work. It will have about as much impact on the world as last Tuesday's "Marmaduke."

I guess the worst that will happen is Jet will write some B-side about it.

David Bazan wrote a song about Pitchfork recently.

Just click the "quote" button in the corner of the box you want to quote

Does that mean that I'm officially more useful than Pitchfork is now? :D

Noob poster, long time lurker. Thanks, and for today, yes, more valuable than P4K. I am trying to post more, so hang with me.

The more ads pitchfork pushes, the more money they make. The more inflamatory their reviews, the more ads they push.

It's called "Selling Advertising," and it's probably more implied about PFM than actually about PFM. But 'tis a good tune, nonetheless...

You're so creative with your reviews
Of what other people do
How satisfying that must be for you
Am I a Christian? Are you a Jew?
Did you kill my Lord? Must I forgive you?

I know it's hard to be original
In fact nothing scares me more
Because Jesus only lets me do
What has been done before

The path of least resistance
The ancient holy wars
The same old easy targets
Yeah we've all been there before

So if it starts to get you down
Just pretend
That you don't make your living
From selling advertising
Tracking trends, coralling demographics
And maximizing traffic

Then if you get tired of making taste for free
You can always start a band with me
Or anybody...

There are worse things than Jet, but they seem to take themselves a little too seriously. I feel the same way about Wolfmother. I'm starting to think it has something to do with the music press in Australia.

definitely. There basically is no music press in Australia, except for the street press and RollingStone Australia. Music press in Australia exists for one reason: to give every Aussie band a great review (because if you don't that's un-Australian), hopefully trajecting them to international stardom. It worked for Jet & Wolfmother. But even more importantly, the music industry here is almost entirely driven by the government-owned radio station JJJ, they are the tastemakers. They get a hold of all the next big thing stuff and then the commercial radio stations catch on and start playing the Jets and Wolfmothers and Missy Higginses soon after. It's quite the monopoly. If you take a look at all of the acts to have made it big out of Australia from the last 5 years, every single one of them would have been driven by JJJ.

exactly. they're just another "popular band that indie nerds have to hate to look cool."
