Okay, so here's what we'll do:

Rank as many albums as you want from 1971. Below is a list stolen mainly from Fastnbulbous' site, but it also includes revisions from the old poll I ran last year. Live albums count. Compilations do count in this series as long as they are not greatest hits comps (E.G. Singles Going Steady counts, but The Very Best of Journey does not count (even if it should)).

Post any omissions and I will add them to the list. Between all of our sources, we ideally should be able to conjure up a definitive "albums of the year" list in each one of these threads.

I'll post my list shortly.

Also, if you want, I can aggregate the lists so we can figure out the board's top ten for each year, which might be useful.

I can only list nine, since I don't think I have properly listened to or owned the rest of these to give a fair ranking.

1. Rolling Stones: Sticky Fingers
2. Led Zepplin IV
3 The Who: Who's Next
4. Marvin Gaye: What's going on
5 Serge Gainsbourg: Histoire du Melodie Nelson
6. Kraftwerk I
7. Faust
8. Can: Tago Mago
9. Tangerine Dream: Alpha Centauri

shit I forget about the Mothers of Invention album(s?) from that year

Tony hates Zappa and so there's never any Zappa on his lists beyond the early mothers stuff

adding: Fillmore East 71 and 200 Motels

Also, I just noticed that the Dramatics debut is 1972, so I'm omitting it

Not to be a beggar, but would someone nice post some tracks from/or the complete Bill Fay "Time of Last Persecution" and the Gil Scott-Heron album.
I know that Elephantstone mentioned Fay, and after looking those two up, I think I'm missing something by not giving them a good listen.
If it isn't possible or you only have it on the original vinyl, I completely understand. I just thought it might help some of less knowledgable people learn to appreciate more of these records.
