these have all been clunkers:
the last two gbv albums

You have got to be shitting me. Half Smiles of the Decomposed is killer, and Earthquake Glue is way better than Universal Truths.

Earthquake Glue is one of the worst GbV related albums I've ever heard. I've tried to like it. Really, I have. Half Smiles has six great songs, and 8 really, really awful songs. Nothing is worse than hearing Bob Pollard harmonizing off-key in a hi-fi studio.

UTAC is better than both of these because it has 9-10 really great songs. It's not one of their best, but I'd certainly take Wire Greyhounds/Skin Parade/Zap/Cheyenne/Back to the Lake/Eureka Signs/Everywhere with Helicopter/Wings of Thorn/Pretty Bombs/UTAC/Father Sgt. Christmas Card over any combination of songs you can come up with from either one of those releases.

Of the three in question 'Earthquake' as a whole is my least favorite. That said, 'My Kind of Soldier' is most certainly a Top 50 Pollard song.

And "The Best of Jill Hives" is a Top 10 (probably Top 5) Pollard song. EQ is pretty damn good.

UTAC is also a great album, proven by the fact that you didn't even mention the best song on that album, which is "Christian Animation Torch Carriers."

12 great songs, 1 so so song, and 1 awful song ("(S)Mothering and Coaching.") And now I can't even remember which was the so-so song, so I just have to re-lump it with the 12 great ones, so it's 13 mostly great songs and one bad one. Really fantastic album.

Normal Happiness just edged FaCE out of its first position.

"Speak Kindly" is the very best non-GBV thing he's ever done.

Love to hear this if you feel like sharing.

Can't tell you how this one slipped under the radar but it has 5-6 of the absolute very best songs Pollard has written. So thanks-

You're welcome. I love this album.

The guitar solo in "Slick As Snails" is also Gillard's best guitarwork in GbV period.

If you haven't heard "Airport 5 - Tower in the Fountain of Sparks," I'll gladly up that one for you too. It's a bit more of a grower, but there's a few very immediate tracks that it's definitely worth it for.

I know it's a Bobby & Toby production but like the other I haven't heard it. At your convenience SK, that'd be great. Thanks
