Just heard it on WFAN. That was quick. Can the ARod trade be too far behind?

Sweet, Lou! I was worried the Yanks would hire Girardi out from under us.

This smells of an equal parts retirement/firing. If only the Orioles were in need of a coach...

Actual full quote:

"You kind of get tired of giving the other team credit," Rodriguez said in a somber Yankees clubhouse. "At some point, you just have to look in the mirror and say, 'I sucked.'"

I can't help but feel kind of bad for Torre. I always hated the Yankees but I had some respect for Torre. I'm sure he'll end up somewhere though.

Unless he's truly just a puppet yes man, Cashman should also be fired for being unable to put together a decent pitching staff on $200 fucking million.

ESPN Story on Torre

They should probably make a bunch of trades.

I've liked Joe Torre since he managed the Braves.

Steinbrenner is such a fucking dumb ass. He's probably the only person alive with more sports-related kneejerks than me.

I only hope the Rangers end up with Torre.

In all fairness, Torre's been muttering about retirement for a few seasons now.

But he's been great for the Yankees and while I'd hate to see him go, now might be a good time for him to resign.

If Steinbrenner actually officially "fires" him there might be rioting in the streets.

If Lou Pinella takes over the Yankees, they will never make the playoffs under his tenure, and a couple dozen bases will be thrown in the general direction of umpires.

well, this would certainly fit in with the "win a world series with buck showalter's team" thing that the rangers are going for next year.

No, which is why I said it smelled of a retirement/firing combo. Also, ARod has a no trade clause, so all this trade talk with him is bs.

Of course, you're assuming he WANTS to stay with a team where everyone else in the dugout and the stands hates his guts, and where he wilts under the intense scrutiny of the media spotlight. Best place for him to pad his stats for the rest of his career would be Tampa Bay. That's the closest to win-win that sorry fucker's ever gonna get.
