How do you know it was really him?

I guess I really don't. It linked back to the band's blog site, so who knows. I sent an email to him and not the band, so I hope it was him. I'd otherwise feel silly.

Dude, this renders my long-standing feud with Chicago's own Kevin Junior rather tertiary, when compared with you going toe-to-toe with John Roderick! Kick ass!!!

You have a feud with the guy from Rosehips?

He's the guy from The Chamber Strings. I've never heard of Rosehips. And it's too one-sided to really be considered a feud. I love him, he hates me. Besides, it was all contained in one late-night thread on the CMJ BB way back like 4-5 years ago or some such.

Dude's touchy about his heroin addiction.

I have to agree with this.

I have a very longstanding dislike of everything he writes about. I think he has horrible taste and often, horrible opinions.

I once saw him at a show at the Abbey several years back and the people with me were joking that they had to keep me from approaching him and going off on him.

I can hook you up with a SNDSPCPLSKTHX at an extremely reasonable rate.

I saw Okkervil River on Saturday. You want I should start a fight with Will Sheff as payment? I was going to start that review tonight.

I've got too much music on my plate right now. Chamber Strings will be much appreciated at a later date.

you see, i didn't really get why you were so critical of him apart from his non-stop banter. yeah, he talks about as much as ted leo and the sound was horrible and he made a few comments that i wouldn't've if i led a band, but my only real complaint with the music was no "hater high" and the slow version of "ultimatum" instead of the fast one.

i'm not critical of him outside of his banter. i really hated the way he talked to the crowd, but i'm pretty sure that i've made it clear all along that the music was great. i sang along to every song. except the song during which i was trapped in the bathroom. and the one i didn't know.

Hip Displeasure cool story #2:

Got an email today from the manager of Frightened Rabbit. He read my review of their album on Hip-D, thanked me for the kind words and has offered to put me on the guest list for their upcoming Chicago show.

Sheeeeeeeeeit. Not a bad gig. I wonder how I can use Hip-D for SXSW access...

Update:

Frightened Rabbit show was tonight. Their manager was circling me and said in a glorious Irish accent, "are you jasmine?" I was like, "yeah. yo." He took me around to meet the band and everyone was really nice. The show was awesome and I'm going to write about it on Hip-D tomorrow when I'm not so tired.

I couldn't figure out how the hell this dude from Ireland knew who I was, then I remembered that Papa Frac has our pictures proudly on display.

hooray.

I'm friends with him, so yeah, I guess I am a fan. I actually emailed him a link to the Long Winters entry just a few minutes ago.

His writing doesn't bother me.

I'm a fan. Really enjoyed "Kaleidoscope Eyes". That's cool that you know him. Seems like he'd be a nice guy. (Haven't read anything else of his though so...)

Oh yeah, he's a hell of a nice guy. I mean, he's really just a music geek at heart. His opinions are a bit retarded at times (uh, he doesn't like the song "born to run"), but he's a good guy.
