It's reading threads like these that make me miss the first 10 minutes of CSI.

Yeah, I thought I always watched way too much tv, but I always listened to far too much music to make that possible. Everyone that I have ever lived with watched way more tv than I do. I don't see how you can spend four to six hours during your day off channel surfing. The most tv I watch is college football on saturday and that might be roughly six hours at the most on a good weekend of games.

exactly.

in my 5 years at college, the only tv i watched was sports. and that was usually at a bar.

I stopped watching TV for the most part in college.

Now I watch 2 shows, and that's pretty much it. Over this past summer, I hardly ever turned it on.

I could stand to watch the news a little more, but I kinda hate pretty much all local, major network, and cable news. When you get away from TV for a while, you stop being used to the way news shows "bait" the viewers, and you totally lose patience for it.

As my roommate said when we were watching Lost last week, TV is a shitty format. I'm expecting/hoping it will change pretty drastically soon.

Are your friends socially inept? Are they stoners? This would explain why they don't leave the TV.

The ironical-type thing about Parker Lewis is that he did indeed lose after 73 episodes. Though most Nickelodeon shows are direct descendants of that show, so that's a measured success. Of a sort. I guess.

Here's the actual chronology of theft:

Most Nickelodeon shows ripped off...

Parker Lewis Can't Lose, which ripped off...

A Night in the Life of Jimmy Reardon, which ripped off...

Morgan Stewart's Coming Home, which ripped off...

Ferris Bueller's Day Off.

I often come *this close* to getting rid of cable until a Discovery show about a midget family or a VH1 Classic interview with Gang of Four sucks me right back in.

This summer in Boston my apartment had cable. I miss Myth Busters and some car rebuild shows, but not much else.

Hi Def tv comes over the air for free. Get a nice tv with a built-in hi def tuner, and some cheap-ass rabbit ears. I get 3 PBS's in hi-def, and one is all parks and shipwrecks and shit in widescreen. Football and baseball look fucking amazing.

Free.*

* once you drop a grand and a half on a tv.

I've actually had an HD tuner in my computer for several months now, and it's terrific on my 19" widescreen monitor. The total cost of antenna, tuner, and monitor was under $300. I have 2 computers now, so I'm working on turning one into a dedicated media system.

Yup. Haven't had cable in awhile. Don't miss it at all.

They sure as hell ain't stoners, but they are pretty socially inept. One of them actually said to me "I have so many ideas and want to do so much, but I'm just too lazy to do anything." Which I suppose would make him more then socially inept.

My stoner friends actually spend most to all their time playing World of Warcraft. Go figure.

I refuse to get this game, because I know with deadly certainty it would result in expulsion and divorce. I still play starcraft.

I watch baseball, shows like Doctor Who & Lost, some of the forensics shows my wife has on, the occasional news show and a truckload of shows like "Stalking The Mammoth" and "Aliens Built The Pyramids"

Don't have HBO or Showtime right now.

I watch very little tv other than baseball and a small handful of shows but still manage to spend over $1000 per year on my directv/dvr package. Seems like a waste but I need my yankees coverage, soccer games, and city of men.
