In the meantime the NY Post has picked up on the story. And Hot 97 has posted an apology on their website, an extremely weak apology in my opinion. They aren't even willing to match that flimsy one day suspension Star and Buc got for the "rat eater" incident? Pathetic. And they still refuse to acknowledge the bigotry at all.

I can kinda understand the dark humor of making jokes about Tsunamis in general, but not writing lyrics celebrating and mocking people being swept out to sea and then denigrating their race in order to get laughs, ironic laughs or not. There's nothing subtle or hip about that. I don't suppose these DJs have ever had to live through a tragedy. They should be made to go to Indonesia and dig graves.

These kind of jokes are all over hipinion. I usually ignore them because if you respond to them you get lots of contempt and awarer-than-thou insults back at you. The view appears to be that as long as you apply a veneer of ironic detachment, you can say anything about anyone.

But all it does is point out that the people making the jokes have little understanding of pain, loss, tragedy or the need for actual compassion in the face of horror.

I get it when Jews pretend to be anti-semitic for the sake of a punchline or when black dudes crack a black joke. That's irony.
