I know it's 2 months away, but I've been thinking about the 2006 Mixes I'm gonna be doing.

I'd like to see if you all would be interested in posting them up to share with fellow Obner's, including download links, similar to the way I did mine last year. Each mix would include the following:

01 Tracks in MP3 format (192 or higher)

02 Printable cd cover in PDF format

03 Zipped and ready for download from SendSpace or YouSendIt

You can also drop in a .cue file if you'd like.

I'll be doing mine by genre:

2006 Best of - Indie
2006 Best of - Experimental
2006 Best of - Electronic
2006 Best of - Metal

I think this would be a cool way for us to discover some new music, instantly, and also have the option to burn the mixes to cd with a cover.

Up for it??

Up for it?

If I'd bought enough music this year, and had the technology to make one of these, I would.

Good idea though, D.

I'd at least be willing to mooch a little off of this.

Maybe send a couplea tunes here and there to the contributors.

Will definitely be making a year-end mix, so I'm game. Is there any freeware that creates PDF files, or can the cover art be a different filetype?

I don't see why you couldn't just make it a bitmap file (like a .tiff or even a .jpg or .gif), at least 150 dpi, as long as the file size isn't too big.

I'll definately do one but it won't be until 2006 has actually finished since I usually use Christmas money to snap up the releases I missed at the time of release.

yeah, those options will work fine. pdf is my preferred choice, but whatever works for you all.

rename the individual tracks, starting with the #. for instance...

01 the new shapes - about a girl
02 the magic numbers - soul singers

etc.

does this mean you have the full album now? :wink:

i'll be doing a year-end mix for sure, but likely won't be for a while into '07.

Here is my attempt at a "Best of 2006" mix up to a couple of weeks ago:

http://www.box.net/public/rqq6zzn267

Here's the tracklisting:

* "Remember when we used to make out to this hymn?"
* "Kick Me And Cancel" - Robert Pollard
* "Thou Shalt Wilt" - Loose Fur
* "Knee High" - French Kicks
* "Elijah" - Frank Black
* "Magic" - Ben Kweller
* "Never Do This Again" - The M's
* "Plow You Under" - Scott H. Biram
* "Monument Sails" - Centro-Matic
* "The Bee" - Starlight Mints
* "The Education Song" - The Gourds
* "Weed Party" - Band of Horses
* "Hummalong" - The Drams
* "Fire Island, AK" - The Long Winters
* "White Collar Boy" - Belle and Sebastian
* "Cope" - The Futureheads
* "Summersong" - The Decemberists
* "European Oils" - Destroyer
* "Night Driver" - Tom Petty
* "Maybe Sparrow" - Neko Case
* "VERA said that?!?"

The mix opens and closes with cribbed Simpsons audio, which was obviously taken from pre-2006 episodes. But all the songs between are 2006.

I'll put together a super-duper year-end extravaganza sometime in December.

i usually do a double disc at the end of the year, i like to try to span all the genres in one mix and see if i can get them to all transition smoothly.

Just a heads-up that I started a tracklisting thread in the mix forum as has been my habit the past two years. Feel free to copy your tracklisting (or link to a separate thread if you have one) on it.

I'd be down for it if I could just upload the music. I don't have time for all that other crap, to be honest.

My thoughts:

A) I don't listen to/have access to near as much music as you do Dale. My mix would simply be a Best of 2006, 1 disc only affair.

B) I am not computer savvy enough to be able to send artwork, etc. (you'll be lucky if it comes zipped)

C) I'd be happy to share it with whoever.

i'm going to do a top 33 singles airplay and a top 27 albums airplay that i'll probably whittle down to 10-ish each in order to mediafire at y'all. (not that any of it will be discoveries for anyone...)
