How does everyone feel about this? I've got no moral or ethical beef, really, but I just can't see this as being healthy.

Cloned animals are still animals, yeah, they're a creepy xerox, but genetically all the information is the same, so it's not any more or less unhealthy at the point that it's butchered.

Unless they're talking about just cloning ribeye or tenderloins in a petri dish, i wouldn't worry about it.

Kind of weird considering the stem-cell argument etc.

I guess its OK to play God as long as it isn't with people?

Something tells me this is gonna get weirder before it gets normal.

Phil's right. Cloning, IIRC, just involves replacing the dna in a fertilized egg with different DNA, so the resulting cow will not be any kind of freakish mutant. The only problem I can see is that if in 10 years we're all eating copies of the same perfect cow, and the cow gene pool never evolves, a disease could come along and totally wipe them all out.

not all kinks are worked out with clones (the aging process is possibly slightly accelerated for example), but its pretty safe

'clones' arent actually exact copies - like 99.9% the same, but the mitochondrial DNA comes from the egg, not from the cloned animal. Some of that DNA codes for some pretty important proteins
