ultimately, this game was to determine 2nd place in the MLB. my boss is a mets fan, so this doesn't bode well for me tomorrow.

this was devastating. in the eighth, i said, "if they can't get it done with beltran, delgado, and wright, they deserve to lose." i regretted it immediately. motherfucker.

although, i finally got smart over the last two days and listened to the radio broadcasts instead of joe buck and tim mccarver slurping the cardinals for 3+ hours.

Anyone think that the World Series was actually played in the FIRST round this season (Tigers v. Yanks)? Usually they have the decency to wait for the ALCS.....

I'm very happy about the outcome, although I hate to see that cry baby Scott Rolen in the WS.

On the other hand, the Mutts and that other cry baby Billy Wagner are done.

embarrassing for the mets. a well played series, but that cardinals team is pretty weak. still, the mets were throwing pitchers from the mlb scrapheap out there and almost got away with it. i mean, how does a team with darren oliver on the roster even reach the playoffs. i wonder if the devil rays could have won the nlcs. i think maybe.

darren oliver has actually been pretty good in long relief this season. he's pitched the mets out of some jams when the starter had to leave early. i still can't wrap my head around the concept of a god who would allow an abomination like scott spiezio's facial hair to be in the world series.

Some serious pitching performances by some scrub pitchers in the NL series.....

I think Detroit wins on pitching alone in the WS.... As a flyover country guy, I would prefer the Cards not get swept and their arses handed to them, but Detroit is on a mission. The Tigers were the Royals about 2 years ago.

Same story in 2004 but it was the 2nd round.

My god your avatar is awesome. Basket Case scares me more than almost anything.

The Cardinals do have a scrub-ass team. I can't believe Suppan and Wainwright pitched us out of that. I don't think I can fully wrap my noodle around the fact that they're in the Series.

Wow, I went 0-2 in that round, but I am glad that the Cards won. I think Saint Louis will make it a series. They probably should have been swept in the first round by how they were playing the last month or two. For some reason, they are starting to play like they did toward the beginning of the season.
I think Detroit will win, but I'm thinking the Cards win at least one if not two games in Saint Louis. I'll take Detroit in 6.

The main thing I don't like about the Cardinals making it to the series is that Pujols will probably get more votes for MVP now. People say they don't consider the post-season for MVP voting, but they always do. Don't get me wrong, Pujols is the best player in baseball, but the most valuable player to his team this year was definitely Ryan Howard. He had 9 more HRs, 12 more RBI, and played on an arguably less talented team that actually won more games than the Cards.

Smile and nod, Alex. Smile and nod.

Preferred Mets (edit) over Cards but am definitely rooting for day-Twaa.

Not defending Pujols, because Howard did have the better year, but Pujols put up unbelievable numbers in less games due to an injury. If Pujols wins though, David Ortiz should as well, since he suffered late season health problems and put up sick numbers too.

Ortiz should not win until he plays in the field.

I want to see footage of Rolen and LaRussa in a Piniella-Dibble throwdown.

I hate the Cardinals.

the guy is what, 30 years old? There is no excuse why he cant play the field....

a full time DH should be for someone who is past his prime / late 30's.

despite the amazing numbers he put's up, he is a half player.

as for the Mets / Cards.....it made the Yankee dissapointment just a bit easier to take!

Go CArds!!!!!!

I'm sad that the Mets lost because Z was rooting for them. And who doesn't love Gayvid Wright and Jose Reyes?? But, I'm glad that it will now be the Cardinals (fuck St. Louis - goddamned arch) who will be beaten by the Tigers.

Go Tigers!

Ortiz is a DH because AL teams are required to have a DH and he fills the role better than anyone on the team. It has nothing to do with whether or not he's capable of playing in the field. He's a pretty good first baseman when he's put out there. Not great, but pretty good.

Ortiz is not the one who decides whether he fields or not. That's Francona.

Coming from a Yankee persepctive, I know in the NY papers, for the last 5 years, Jason Giambi (not one of the better defensive first baseman in the game. Probably in the bottom third), has fought to play in the field his entire tenure here so far....

I dont read the Boston Globe on a daily basis...maybe once a week.....but Ortiz is young enough, where they could have put him in the field more then 10 times this year....

he's half a player.....surely, the one half is probably one of the three best in baseball, but still only half, and that should make some impact on his MVP consideration....

I can't tell you what pleasure it brings me to know that a guy from Brunswick, GA that came up through the Braves farm system was the one to close the deal for the Cards (Adam Wainwright) and send em packing.

The Tigers are a feel good story but I could really care less about this World Series.

awards are voted on by bbwaa on the day between the end of the regular season and the beginning of the playoffs. the reason why, unlike other sports, they're not announced until november is that someone many years ago was voted MVP and had a terrible postseason after it was announced. so now they just delay the announcement.
