and in disqusting new news on the band, from blabbermouth.com

ChartAttack.com reports that BLIND MELON has reformed with a new singer — eleven years after frontman Shannon Hoon's drug overdose death.

Glen Graham (drums), Christopher Thorn (guitar), Brad Smith (bass) and Rogers Stevens (guitar) have added former RAIN FUR RENT frontman Travis Warren as their new vocalist and started writing new songs. The band members originally looked for a replacement for Hoon a decade ago, but decided to go their separate ways instead of carrying on with the grunge-meets-classic rock group.

BLIND MELON has somehow kept a loyal fanbase over the years, and a two-day vigil was even held at Hoon's grave in Dayton, Indiana last month. The event was carried over the internet for Melonheads who couldn't attend in person, and it concluded with the eight-band Vigilstock concert in his nearby hometown of Lafayette. The vigil is apparently an annual event, so check out the band's fan site for updates around the time of Hoon's September 26 birthday if you desperately yearn to attend next year.

Interest from less avid fans of the band was spurred by last year's "Best Of Blind Melon" CD/DVD, which featured previously unreleased live material, soundtrack contributions and music videos.

and still, nobody cares.

kinda sad really, pretty good band.

I mean Kurt is obviously the biggest death of the 90's stars but who is second between Hoon, Layne Staley and Bradley Nowell?

I still listen to the Blind Melon debut quite regularly. It's actually a pretty great summery beer drinking album. Soup isn't bad either, but the cocaine muffles the sound a bit.

I've really enjoyed the recent release of their live DVD and CD. I think they were a great band. One of my favorites from the 90s.

Jeff Buckley.

Tim Taylor

And I can still listen to Soup every now and then. Could do without ever hearing their first one or "No Rain" ever again, though.

Yeah, I don't see the appeal of this band at all.

I'm curious to know if the haters are really familiar with anything other than 'No Rain'.

They were a great band. I can't believe I didn't think to include 'Soul One' on my mix trade cd.

To commemerate, Izzy Stradlin went up to the roof of his house and held aloft a "Where's Shannon?" sign...

unfort, the bee girl will probably be the visual that this band is always remembered for... no rain was an awesome, although over over over played song and its easy to see why there are haters out there...

but this was a great great band!

I remember being out drinking with friends when someone came in and said this guy died. He had a handler and everything to ensure that he would stay away from drugs, and yet he managed to die anyway.

The guy's only job was "stay alive" and he fucked that up.

They have three new songs on this page, if anyone is interested.
