Apparently one of those indie supergroup things. Anybody likey? I heard some samples of songs on itunes which sounded promising but as the Dears proved to me, samples can be misleading. They're fronted by the lead singer of Comets on Fire who said about the project,
"“We put Howlin’ Rain together with the intention of making a good old fashioned free-wheeling rock album with a bared soul and a body in which Joy, hysteria and Darkness all lie upon the same rambling bones. We make music to beat the steering wheel of your van to or sing along with while drinking whiskey in the bathtub on a Saturday night with your dog. “

What is the Obnerpinion of this?

No one, eh? Oh well, the samples sounded cool. I could see all the Georgia guys liking this. I've never really been all that impressed with Comets on Fire. This sounded much more my speed. I guess I'll have to chance it and make a purchase from itunes.

Without having heard it it's hard to comment. It sounds to me like they're describing what Comets On Fire was intended to be.

i'm listening to this for the first time. very mixed feelings.
i like the arrangements + production so far a lot more than i like the songwriting itself.

"The Hanging Heart" is crazy good.

I admit that I don't know if I'd like this as much if I weren't hard for Comets On Fire and all of its tangents, but it's well-crafted like "Avatar" and has just-enough not-too-much of a hippie vibe.
