Mine is probably a 6. I have an interior office (no outside window). I'm close to some decent window action, though. I can close the door any time and play music, etc. All of our office furniture is modular, so its mostly plastic and devoid of any character whatsoever. I can put up anything I want on the walls (within the bounds of office decency, that is).

My job pretty much rules, though, so I can overlook the shortcomings of my own office space without much hesitation.

quiet, corner cube, 2 windows, view of my car and landscape workers all day. can play music fairly quietly. don't get bothered very much and my spidey senses always tell me when there's someone behind me...in case I'm obnering.

younger people around me with bad taste so I constantly freak them out with cries of "what the fuck, you want to go drink at fucking chilis, are you retarded?"

I swear and curse and make horrible jokes and references all day and the two bosses in offices nearby have said nothing...although my supervisor nearly died laughing after I got done with a call and then yelled for the woman on the phone to "suck my balls"

I only give it the low rating because the work is so damn boring.

Pros: lots of space to roll around, lots of desk, cabinet and wall space, well-lit, convenient location, no internet restrictions, big speakers, lots of toys

Cons: does not have a door nor roof, could use a fan or mini a/c unit sometimes. shit be heatin' up around here.

Interior double-wide cubicle, but I get almost no traffic going past, so its OK.

I have full cable in my cube, with a TV and DVD player.

And, my boss is 200 miles away, and wouldn't care anyway.

i say 7.5

the pros: i can play my music LOUD. actually, everyone plays their music loud. the film & tv dept here rules. every other dept is quiet and don't really play music loud (wtf, this is a record label people). i'm far from where my boss' office is so that's nice. only prob, i'm on the corner end so everyone always walks by and i can barely get anything done at times. sometimes the music gets too loud as well when i'm on the phone. i can always be on the internet since it can be considered "research." decorated quite nicely thanks to posters and such.

the cons: i'm in a cube. and it's small. cluttered with cd's and artist files. i'm usually organized but if i'm confined to a small space, no can do. also, our office is moving to the busiest intersection in hollywood this coming february so getting to work will be a bitch. hopefully, i'll have a better space though.

The design/art dept. is the entire top floor of our building. The accounting/sales drones never come up here, modern furniture, music is cranked all day, coffee and food on tap, open environment to keep inspiration and conversation flowing, design book library, our own kitchen, plants, and friday volleyball matches.

NO CUBICLES.

You hiring? Any talks to set up a satellite office in Houston?

hahaha, not at this point.

but we've been thinking about having someone come in an prepare our lunches everyday. can you cook?

This is the funniest thing I've read all day.

I don't have an office as I work in a hospital which is great for me because I would hate sitting around in a cubicle from 9-5.

I'll go with a solid 8.5, as a few days ago I got to upgrade from an individual cube to an "office"-sized cube. It's twice as big as what I was in before, and I've got windows overlooking the spectacular vista that is Texas State Highway 75.

The best thing about this new setup is I've managed to configure my monitor in such a way that people can't see it without coming all the way back behind my chair. It used to be easy for people to sneak up behind me and see all the scat shots I had pulled up in lieu of actual spreadsheets and such.

2.7 on th billyg scale.

i work on the second floor of a two-story building that serves as a truck depot for my company. second floor is broken out into a few cubes. the place hasn't been updated at all since...probably 1974. it's usually too hot in here, the server goes down often and the few lifers that work here are extrememly loud, fat and obnoxious.

the GOOD (and the only thing saving this from being a 0.3), only 8 people work here, including the 4 in my group. i can wear whatever i want. we can work from home whenever we want. and when i do come in, the normal schedule is: arrive around 9. go out for coffee around 10 for an hour or so. long leisurely lunch begins at noon. leave by 3:30-4. we've also been known to take in movies and/or 9 holes at the local course. oh, also only a 10 minute commute from my house.

so we are pretty much left here with absolutely no management-type supervision.

are you expected to perform any work?

How does this rate only a 7.0?

My setup is pretty standard issue...shitty cubicle right in the middle of a row. And my boss is right behind me back-to-back...no wall between us.

Thank Gawd I can listen to my CD's/tapes/radio. Otherwise I wouldn't have lasted a week.

kinda?
i mean of course...but we have a 48 hour turnaround, and our sales guys in the field are so clueless that they LOVE us for getting it to them within the same day.

i guess basically, we have the right people out there talking to the right VP's, etc that has made our group "irreplacable" somehow. we've gotten over the "how long is this gonna last" thing a couple years ago....

Hehe. My actual office is no frills. Fax, 3 phones and some charts on the wall in a basically abandoned building.

But, I mainly do work from home and lawyer's offices...so, my rating is ** -- cannot be rated on this scale...

Yeah, I'd rate my home office a solid 9.0---it only looses points because I have to make my own coffee and clean up after myself.

Don't forget about the part where they highlight all your comments.

decent sized cubicle as far as cubicles go, except the walls go all the way up to the ceiling and it comes with a sliding glass door, which gives it the feel of having my own office. a lot more sane than that xp-everyone-working-in-one-meeting-room crap at qwest.
