Hey, guys, just received an IM from splates (sorry, Mike) asking if it was me on some photo. When I clicked on it, it immediately popped up the same message from my other online MSN buddies. Luckily, my firewall immediately detected and blocked it.

Just wanted to give you a warning!

This is what the message reads as:

I changed the link in case someone accidentally clicks on it.

fuck you splates!

I'm having troubles beating this. I can't delete the file it spawned "install.exe" because it says it's write protected or in use, but i ended all process trees except for standard system ones, and still, i can't delete it.

Anyone?

Yeah, I got it from you. I thought maybe you decide to be nice and say hi to me, but I guess not. :(

Oooooh...nice?! Who told you I was nice?

(Sorry, I'm barely awake in the morning.)

Btw, I left my virus/spyware detector running at home and couldn't wait. I'm hoping that shit is gone when I get home. Or else, I'm taking a trip to splates' land and seeking revenge.

This fucking virus has had more come backs than [insert seventies band here].

I downloaded Spysubtract and it seemed to do something but this thing has been like weeds so far, it grows right back, so we'll see what happens.

After you get this thing cleaned out, make sure you install Spybot S&D with TeaTimer and make sure TeaTimer is running! It usually prevents crap like this from running in the first place. That thing's a life saver.

Or wipe your hdd clean. That's what I had to do several years ago on a AIM virus.

I think my combined might of AVG, Spybot, and Ad-Aware got rid of it all.

It did result in me downloading the new versions of Messenger and Internet Explorer, though.

Both of which are pretty fucking terrible.

I've used all these and I'm still getting pop up ads.

If anyone is still having a problem with this (and I was even after running all those spyware programmes) I seem to have sorted it out.

I basically went on to MSCONFIG and googled everthing running on the PC and I found these two Malware programmes that the scans weren't picking up

DFNDRFF_E33.EXE
NWNMFF_E33.EXE

They were located in Local Disk C:. I deleted them and a couple of associate files (they have the same unusual icon as dfndrff_e33.exe and nwnmff_e33.exe, one was called 'Dr' something and there was an other, four in total).

Since deleting these I've not had any problems.

my computer has been owned by this thing. Nothing is getting rid of it. Just keeps respawning everywhere and i even when i do find the files i either can't delete them or i do and they just come straight back.

Mike, did you run a spyware program? I used McAfee's and it allowed me to disable it from the Start Menu. As soon as I did that, all pop ups stopped. I then did a search of the file (it was called "two" on mine...dunno about anyone else's)...deleted it and it's gone. I've since rebooted the computer just to make sure it's gone and it is.

Hope that works.
