Well, after one listen, I'm VERY disappointed. There are a few good songs, but overall, this is nowhere near as great as their first two albums.

Still, that doesn't diminish the greatness of Timis for getting this to us way before anyone else!

Maybe it will eventually be a grower, but right now, it's more of a groaner.

I just gave it a first listen and I like it quite a bit. Doesn't grab me like the first two did, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. It's just more mature sounding. I don't really feel any strong disappointment in the least.

Perhaps I was overstating it when I claimed I was very disappointed. This just isn't as..."immediate" as the last one.

I'd love to hear this once someone gets it.

I freaking love this album especially the song "Sea Legs." Think I'm just a huge fan of this band and they can't do any wrong. It doesn't seem to sound like the Cure like I have read somewhere. Can't wait for its release and a decent rip.

Yeah, that's definitely the best song by far on this album. Good call, Deon.

I have to say, after a couple of listens, I find this one to be pretty underwhelming. There are a couple of decent songs, but imo it doesn't even compare to the previous two. This isn't terribly descriptive, but to me the songs feel empty and lethargic, and like they lack the same energy and vigor found on the earlier albums. I'm hoping it will grow on me, but I'm not so sure...

what exactly is the benefit of waiting until january to release an album? how's that working out for the strokes right now?

early-year releases constantly get left off year-end best-of lists and, thus, lose out on an extra boost of sales. i don't understand how this could pay off.

spoke to sub pop.

initially they were going to release this in march. then june. then august. then october. then Christmas. the record just wasn't done in time for any of those. even though they finished the record late last month, the packaging, manufacturing, marketing and promoting couldn't have been done in time for a Christmas release.

the strokes record didn't work out b/c the strokes record sucked.

HOLD YOUR TONGUE! 8) That first half is awesome. They should have spent some time editing some songs out after about #8 though.

I hope there's no threat of execution from the royals, but I disagree about the Strokes record, too. I don't usually disagree with katie, either.

When did this thread turn into the terrain of the New Dumb? If The Strokes rekkid sucked, name 3 better than it this year.

And Tanner, I love you, but clean out your ears...the only clunker was the single.

I've been listening to this a LOT...keep going back to it over and over.

I agree with the thoughts before that it's a much more mature album than their previous efforts and therefore not as "accessible", but that by no means indicates an inferior product. I would easily say I'm liking this best of all their output.

I remeber Radcliffe saying something last year when people were bagging on the then-new Spoon and New Pornagraphers records to the effect of: "Its not Girls Can Tell, it doesnt have "Letter From An Occupant" on it; its a new album, fucking get over the album that made you fall in love with the band and accept it."

And if by "the single" you mean "Juicebox" Ive even come around and think that song is awesome now.

ooh i like juicebox. good song.

i would love to name more than three rekkids that were better than the strokes' rekkid this year, but i just have a gut feeling that's not what you're actually looking for.

Except in this case, it's not "Is This It" OR "Room On Fire," and it's missing all of the hooks and rockness that made those albums at all remarkable.

I was perfectly ready to love a new Strokes album, just not a mediocre one.

So, its your contention that the new rekkid has less rock or hooks than Room on Fire? I think not, and Room on Fire is, I think, my fave album this decade. They lost nothing. First Impressions brings TEH ROCK.
