I got a few things today, but I should've have. Discounts were only 15-20%.

Various Artists - No New York (Russian import)
John Fahey - The Dance of Death & Other Plantation Favorites
Melvins - Stoner Witch

No New York was still too expensive, and I only got 15% off of it when I'm pretty sure I was supposed to get 20%. That John Fahey disc was still $15 after a 20% discount. The Melvins was nice and cheap, though.

How's the Russian import different from regular print? I paid about $20.00 each for my John Fahey and No New York (not from Tower).

So I went by Tower today and it was still only 15% off, though I asked the guy if this would increase weekly and he said yes, and that they should get down to about 80% off.

BUT I did buy this imported Madness box set, The Lot, which is all 6 of their albums remastered, etc. It was $45 regular, which is a confusingly cheap price anyway (its $76 on Amazon), so with 15% off it came to about $40 after tax.

I have no idea what makes the Russian import different (as I've never seen or heard any others) other than the fact that it seems to be the most recent pressing (last year), and all the liner notes, aside from the lyrics, are in Russian. I guess it's probably the easiest one to find now.

Yeah, those are some expensive discs. I guess $17 and $15 respectively is better than average but not exactly a steal.

I'm counting on this--I picked up and put back a few things hoping they'd be cheaper later. What are the chances they're going to sell all 3 copies of the new Shack import CD before I go back?

I went tonight and found that prices were 20% off for most CDs and 40% off for certain other items. I picked up The Church's "Forget Yourself" for $4 and made a mental checklist of about 7-8 CDs for my next trip in about 3 weeks. The selection didn't look picked-over at all, but I expect that to change quite a bit when prices get to 50% off or lower.

yeah, i was at tower this morning and made a list of albums that will become much more appealing when 30%+ off.

they had about 100 copies of anniemal and some pink floyd remasters scattered across the store.

I hit the Atlanta Tower yesterday and it was a complete joke IMO.

Normally new releases you can find for 9.99 or 7.99 or even 11.99 but there was nothing marked down. There was a storewide 20% on all cd's but that's 20% of their max cd price. I saw that Springsteen Seeger sessions disc for 18.99 before the discount.

They had all their high stock count items out on tables. There were about 40 copies of OK Computer sitting out on a table but they were tagged at 16.99 before discounts.

The only decent deal in the place was 50% off magazines.

The Used section was already pretty picked over unless you're lookin for that last Sugar Ray album.

Also, you could find a few good deals on some DVD's actually. Older movies mostly.

I walked out with only:

The Sadies - Live 2 discs
The Thermals - new one
PJ Harvey - On tour DVD

If they do mark things down drastically in the coming weeks I'll go back but by then all that will be left will be Jazz, New Age, World music, and maybe some bad dance singles. I need to add some Jazz to the collection anyway.

I didn't even look at the music section. The magazines were pretty well picked through (lots of porn left) and the book selection was laughable. 20% off of the movies still left them mostly at $25+. The rentals section (all used movies, obvs) were going for $12.99 a pop. That's ridiculous. I walked out empty-handed and don't plan on going back until it's 40% off or higher.

But I want cheap music NOW!

Seriously, the name of this thread needs to be changed until we get some decent mark downs.

we all have to hold out until it's at least 50% and then we can start looting properly.

Christmas gifts. When Coconuts went out of business, I bought old movies, exercise videos, box sets, etc and gave them out at xmas gifts.

Have you people never heard of rounding up all the stuff you want, & stashing it in some obscure, rarely looked at corner of the store until the price is right?

Sheesh.

Sheesh.

tower has been doing a lot of "inventory" nights lately, in an attempt to find the things that people have been stashing in new age and opera.

Whoa. I was just talking about this yesterday. I think it's a brilliant idea.

Any % off updates?

I'm getting rather bored over here, and have developed an itchy wallet...

Ours is still being tight. I went in Monday & picked up several old mags that were 40% off, but CDs/DVDs are still too high.

Not me. The blank MiniDiscs might be the last things in the store, and I'll be on 'em like a fly on shit.
