Billezebub's argument presupposes so many things it is unbelieveable. I am sure that the dude has always been ambitious, but he probably WASN'T seriously considering it when he said he wasn't. But if half of your party's supporters called you and begged you to run, you would HAVE to be flattered, and it would HAVE to plant some seeds in your mind.

He probably also is thinking about how hard it is for a Senator to win the presidency, but also the though that timing is everything and now may be the time.

One thing EVERYONE (detractors and supporters) needs to seriously consider is that the dude hasn't been in a bigtime political fight. That Blair dude was a self funder with so many negatives that Obama was the only logical choice in the primary. I also think that he doesn't win with 80% of the vote of Jerri Ryan's husband didn't "Like to Watch." He beat ALAN KEYES for fuck's sake.

But, if you got a shot at it, why not grab for the ring, eh Gov. Warner?

Pretty much my thoughts too.

He should probably file those change of name papers in the next week or two.

George Washington McFaghater would probably work wonders.

I'm not presupposing a thing. I'm just saying this guy is no different from all of the other louts, Dem and Rep alike.

Is he the first? No. Will he be the last? No. Is he at all special? I don't think so.

I think you pre-suppose that he was going to do it anyway.

I think he is special enough to have people beg him to run.

I changed my major two years into college.

So either I lied about my intention, or I am so malleable that whatever I aver in the past doesn't matter to me. Either way, I guess I am a dishonest lout.

I don't think Obama has much (if any) chance of winning even if he does run though.

First of all, Barack Hussein Obama is a horrible presidential name, only slightly better than his brother Kim Jong Hussein Obama.

Second, I'm not sure racial attitudes in this country have gotten to the point that a black man could realistically win a general election. I suspect they haven't.

You just about outrightly told the Biggest and only truth on this issue.
So here's how far we've progressed, (Obama aside) if a candidate ( from any party) with Excellent Qualifications, High Capability, Profound Education, Unwavering Committment, Strenght in Leadership, Keeness on Homeland security, Great Propensity to unify, Compassionate, Toughness, viable Social, Economic and Environmental plans, Sound Solutions on Foreign Policies and Global concerns- if such candidate happens to emerge, the good people of United States of America will summarily dismiss all that if that candidate is of the 'wrong' color?

I don't know if his candidacy would be successful with the feelings of many people about "Them" in this country, but he is a special candidate and definitely the type of person who can infuse some new blood into the Democratic party. I think they need to clearly pick a candidate who has a great shot at taking the presidential election with relative ease if the Republican discontent continues, but with our current choices, it is also necessary for the Democratic party to reestablish itself again as being competitive in more than one election.

You forgot Unnecessary Capitalization.

Even though I agree that we are pathetic when it comes to race, it's still pretty obvious that given all the qualities listed above, about half the people will think it's one guy and half the other guy. And if Obama were whiter than Nixon's BVDs, he still wouldn't be the guy whom more than 51% of Americans felt fit the bill.

Hell, the last two guys to get 60% were Nixon in 1972 and Johnson in 1964. Not exactly stellar Presidencies, there.

I'll say this about Obama, I think he's very charsimatic and can be great for the democratic party and the nation. He's also full of bullshit like every other politician and I've heard spill some crap that just didn't make sense. But it doesn't matter cause I don't give him much chance to get elected. If he was elected, I'd rank it as the greatest victory in the history of American politics on several levels none of which I think have to do with his qualitity. Fools gold in my opinion if the Dems hitch their wagon to his candidacy.

Collen Powell??? Not a chance in that He-double-hockey-stick place. Powell is so disgusted with his fallible UN presentation he wants nothing to do with politics.

Nothing to with politics or just the Bush administration and like-minded neocons? Dude is still writing letters to McCain expressing opinions on policy.

Point. People can change their minds, though, and there's some time left. It may not happen, but I still sense a possibility.

Isn't the whole point of this thread that politicians can and will change their minds whenever they want for whatever purposes suit them at the time? That said, I don't think Powell is running.
