You're right, though. My friends who are supported are generally the first to moan about having things so rough. Whatever. Just admit that you're on the parent dole and deal with it. One of my good friends put herself through college (all student loans were in her name and her parents just couldn't afford to help her) and never complained once. It's like wealthy/rich/well-off people are embarrassed to be just that.

Nobody embarassed me, dude. I was embarassed. I knew I was twenty-three, done with school, shouldn't have been living at home (renting, or not)... I knew that I was thoroughly less matured than those in my generation cohort.

That said, I don't ever see the same "contrition" in others, in similar situations, living (in part, at least) on their parents's dime.

I would at least demure about my situation, if not acknowledge it... But, others, they just deny, deny, deny.

See it was supposed to be both because I'd never heard of anyone's parents paying for them to live on their own.

Anyone I know who lives on their own pays for their own groceries, rent, bills, gas, etc.

Well we start raising our own babies at 13, so you have to move out by 18 if not sooner.

But to clear any confusion I got married at 25. Young but not quite 18.

Ohhh, ya know what? I have you confused with that other young gent from Louisiana. My mistake!

And monty, i'm sure you have a point, but i really can't read your posts. Talk english.

And before anyone tells me all about me, have you sold bone marrow out of your hip every six weeks for tuition, rent, gas, books, ramen, or what have you?

No?

Good, then quit talking shit, all you know is you and nobody can take that away from you. Fuck this thread.

Ha, yeah, with Monty failing reading comprehension. I know I wasn't the only one that distinguished between moving out of the parents' house and being financially independent.

Though I have much respect for the likes of Phil and whoever else who paid their own way through uni. Must have been fucking difficult and I know there's no way I'd be able to handle that

I agree. Like I said before. I have been pretty well taken care of. Part of it was that my dad and mom got into MASSIVE debt because of school and some financial mistakes and he happened to have a job that paid him quite well. He was able to put all three of his children through college without them having to take out loans. And although my school was paid for I was raised well and my parents did not want their children to struggle the way they did (like eating canned beans and cow tongue through college because it was all pops could afford)

However, this "wealthy kid"/"rich kid" talk is bullshit sometimes. Sometimes people can receive this stuff and be grateful for it and maintain and understand and be taught a quality work ethic so that they don't just mooch off of their folks until they're 40.

I have never had to "struggle" financially to the extent that probably many Obner have, but I certianly understand working hard and personal responsibility in relation to "making" it.

I think there might be a couple on here that may have had it pretty bad for a while, but overall, I think I have been extremely lucky to not have as many stresses as the average recent college graduate.

And you're always on my side, you just don't like to admit it. I understand -- internet reputations and all.

I moved out at 24, but was essentially paying my own way for a few years prior. Always had a good relationship with my parents and they didn't push me one way or another, but I would've presumably left earlier had I chosen to go to college (ps: worst decision of my life) but couldn't figure out what the hell to study (still can't, either). Hating my last few years in high school didn't make heading off to another block of academia terribly appealing, either.

why the fuck is this a debate?

Moving out, whether you entirely pay your own way or not, is moving out. Period. Either way it is a step forward, as is being completely financially independent.

I can't be arsed to read any of this, but i moved out to London when i was 17. In trouble with the law so i fled to London and stayed in a hostel till i was 19.

I have been an arrogant prick lately so i will divulge that after splitting with my g/f 6 months ago, i currently live with my old dears(age 74), who have been very kind to let my stay in the guest house for as long as i like. So i am 33 and techinally(sp) living with my parents.

I am open to being slaughtered.
