Depends how many other bands coming out for Falls/Meredith/BDO (not likely given the crappy line up) you're planning on seeing, and where Animal Collective fit in the ranking of said bands, given how much all of them are charging for sideshows.

And make sure you get Modest Mouse tix sorted first

Wondering this myself.

I really haven't been that impressed with Animal Collective live. Moments of it are amazing - and those alone may be worth it - but for the most part they're kinda monotonous and boring.

Get with it! ST JEROMES LANEWAY FESTIVAL BABY!

I'm not going to BDO. A bunch of greased-up, shirtless JJJ Bogans pinging. No thanks.

45 AUD. The exchange rate is around 0.70. But that said, i have no information to base this off, it's just a guess.

Australian, which is currently $US34.

That's pretty much standard for international bands that have some kind of indie 'name'

Sydney prices for other bands coming out in the next few months (in $A and not including BF):

Tapes n Tapes - $38
New Pornographers - $45
Band of Horses - $38
Mountain Goats - $36
Modest Mouse - $75 or so

Even local bands with a good profile charge $20-30 or more depending on venue.

It sucks, but what can you do really? Touring in this country is expensive when you've got huge distances and not many cities big enough to break even

Oh, believe me, I know what the BDO is like - even with a great line up last year there was a nasty post-Cronulla vibe underneath it all, as well as the compulsory 'I just want to see the White Stripes/whatver metal band played so I'm just going to piss everyone else off for the rest of the day' element.

And this year will be worse in terms of the bogan moshing types

I forgot that Brisbane is getting St Jerome's this time. I went last year and it was pretty good, but there were severe problems with the location of the stages - one in a laneway between 2 skyscrapers with that faux-marble stuff on their walls does not good sound make, and it was nigh on impossible to get into the Basement where the third stage was located cos the place is so goddamn small. Still had heaps of fun though.

Not sure if I'll end up there this year. There's several bands out for Meredith and Falls that I want to see, and the St Jerome's line up hasn't blown me away yet. And I might end up going to Japan for a couple of weeks in January, so that'll severely limit the budget.

But, does this mean you won't be going to Modest Mouse?

I can barely justify paying $35 for bands I love. If this were a poll, I'd vote no.

I've seen them 4 times and always found them compelling. The last tour I saw earlier this year really blew my mind. It was a totally different show than they had ever presented before. A full band instead of just the two dudes running around. A full audience of kids freaking out. honestly, it ranks right up there with Sleater-Kinney's last show as the best/most interesting thing i saw all year.
