It doesn't really work that way. You had the option of saying "it seems like all I see is" but you didn't, you said effectively "everyone." Then, you had the option of not being an asshat and not including me into your "lemming" characterization, and chose instead to lump me right in there. Thus, ruffled feathers. And I suspect you will continue to stand your stupid ground now that you've been pushed on it, since that's what most people do.

I won't justify to you why my job isn't "meaningless drivel," nor will I explain why it's worth more than 30 thousand a year, because something tells me it would fall on deaf ears, but I will ask (for shits) what sort of job you think isn't meaningless drivel, and if you think any job anywhere is worth more than you make right now.

some kind of research paired with teaching undergrads. Paul's bright, and i can see where he's coming from.

Kyle definitely doesn't fit those stereotypes though.

Now it's time to break bread and drink. booze that is.

O.k. what do i like to do and what am i good at? I'm creative. I like working with creative people. I hate dealing with dumbasses. When i talk with people, I like getting to know their point of view, especially if it's one i don't share but that they've thought out well. Mostly because I think that my point of view is well thought out and that I can sway them to my side through evidence. Failing that, it's insults and pig headed stubbornness. Um...

Crap.

1) You shouldnt care enough about what I think to have written this much
2) Yes I stand by what I said because it is true, and if you dont agree then you are lying (see, nice and circular)
3) I didnt know you were married until you felt it your obligation to feel 'lumped' into my generalization
4) You responded exactly how a lemming should, good job listening in little lemming school.

I think this goes without saying. Just like if Doctors made 30K, admissions would be down 90%.

It's not necessairly about wanting to buy things although I'll be the first to admit I like nice things. I want my wife to be able to stay at home* and focus on the kids that we'll have one day and be able to provide for said kids without skating the line of poverty and be able to enjoy going out to eat at a nice resturant from time to time.

* This is what the wife wants. I personally enjoy the extra money.

It's really not bad. We live pretty modestly, but I never feel like I need anything I can't get - and I buy a lot of musical gear.

I work 185 days a year. I'm home by 3:00 and I get to spend a whole lot more time with my daughter than most dads I know. My room is my domain - I don't have to deal or work closely with other adults. My professional life has a distinct end in May. It's fun - I pretty much laugh all day long in my classroom. And like the good Prince said, sometimes teaching is really, really great and inspiring. Despite what you may think, most kids are pretty neat.

Man, i'm at work by 7... 8 at the latest, and i haven't been home before 9 in over 8 days.

I'm getting slammed with all kinds of commitments that i don't get a say about and don't get compensated for. Then trying to sneak in band rehearsal after that is tiring.

On another note, honestly Phil, and I say this because sometimes someone on the outside can spot patterns easier (not because I think my opinion matters to you in the scheme of things), all you have ever done about teaching is complain.. and you have complained a lot about it.. but you never do the one thing that you know could alleviate that complaining and that is, stop fucking teaching. The kids arent going to change, your reaction to the way the kids are isnt going to change, so why continue to do it?

Oh i'm aware. Things are alot better this year, district is well put together, kids are way more open to learning, the high schoolers i've got are bad ass little musicians. I'm having fun there. I'd like to be at home a little more, or get compensated for the extra hours i'm required to be there by the district.

So if i can't be a musician for a living, i don't want to just swap out teaching for more school unless i reasonably feel like it would be a good change. I've wanted to go to school for a while, just trying to figure out what to do.

ok this was funny for about 3 minutes.. but now Im bored.

But I will be serious for one minute:

Capn- do I think any job are 'worth' more than what I make now.? Well first, I wouldnt equate worth with salary- that is the first problem. So no I dont think anything is "worth" more than education..but do I think others should be compensated more? Sure I suppose so,- somewhere along the line but I can also say that the majority of the pay scale is screwed up.. which is why we are becoming a country of outsourcing- and soon will only be able to provide eachother with services..not things.

careful, we're both writing a lot. I care less about what you think than I do having a good discussion, in theory. And before I get more into this, are you one of those people who just likes pissing people off from the safety of anonymity, for sport? Because you're not doing a very good job making a point, and I'm sure you know it. And what if we start sniping at your job? Do you care enough about it to defend it?

2) Yes I stand by what I said because it is true, and if you dont agree then you are lying (see, nice and circular)

...? Only Haq gets to be right without question. Ohh, and shit, he's in a JD program. Make sure you remind him what a lemming he is.

3) I didnt know you were married until you felt it your obligation to feel 'lumped' into my generalization

Now you know. Be respectful.

4) You responded exactly how a lemming should, good job listening in little lemming school.

If you'd like to talk about anything substantive (ie, not just your holy opinion), I'm game. If it's just insults, go back to pretending you're robin williams in Dead Poet Society.

No doubt Paul's bright but most of these non-thinking lemmings are too. Different priorities in life. Don't care whether you share them or not.

Pretty condescending for someone who's engaged in an INTERNET sqabble over other people lives and judging them without really knowing anythign about them.

I LOVE f4df's argument: "If you care or respnd, I will say I don't care, so you must be a lemming."

I'd say Bloor has it right with the punk bitch assessment.

IN any case, Phil:
