My parents are taking me to Florida as my Xmas gift. Other than that, I don't expect anything. We do a grab bag with my dad's family, but whoever gets me always gives me $50.

I'd much rather give than receive at Christmas. Comes from my need for constant validation.

I'm the same way, which is why I'm looking for ideas.

I need a new digital camera and a new discman.

Other than that, the standard requests of cd's, dvd's, and books.

The Sony Reader

More realistically, probably just some clothes and CDs.

Not that I'd actually ask for either of them... but maybe if people feel like making contributions toward them.

Dream gift (if I had rich parents):

what in god's name is that thing?

PS - my own photographic yearnings could go much further than the poor old Canon xti... but at this point I must stay at least slightly realistic.

it's a $40 japanese camera that takes the most amazing, aged photos. think Boards of Canada :) screw that expensive camera, get a Holga!

a girlfriend of mine has one, and they take such beautiful images. like found photographs from decades gone by.

Dalen, good call on the Holga. I started a thread a few months back about them and never got much response. I will definitely have to add this to my list as well.

Definitely need a dvd player, though not sure whether I should go for full size or portable, since my computer currently can't manage to synch up the image and sound.

Other than that, not sure really. Just general cds/dvds/clothes, though I've got my eye on a couple of cd box sets

Will probably receive various basic household items from the parents as well since I'm finally moving out of college.

Does the dude who takes pictures of cities that look like miniatures use it?

they're pretty cool cameras - though they take a bit of "practice" to get used to. i have three and they all take slightly different images. you can order one for around $20 from holgamods.com, b&h and i think freestyle and do most of the "modifications" yourself. definetly get one with a hotshoe rather than the cheesy built in flash. they work great with strobe. also keep an eye out for 46mm thread size filters in the used bin at your local camera store. the holga doesn't have a threaded filter mount but it's pretty easy to screw one into the soft plastic.
