NYC is at 145. It's come a long way since the 70s/80s when it was the stereotypical scary big city where you'd get mugged if you looked at someone wrong.

Atlanta didn't even crack the top 10. I was surprised. Gentrification strikes again.

136. Athens-Clarke, Ga. - looks like it's cleaned up a bit since I lived there.

They probably didn't report their crime statistics.

Birmingham, AL is dangerous? I had no idea.

Hey, Atlanta's more dangerous than DC, Philly, Miami, or Houston! Way more dangerous than LA and NYC. (According to this list)

Well, it has been nice knowing you folks -- when the stray bullets hit me, someone from Obner come claim my cd's because my family sure won't appreciate them.

Yeah, I would rather be in downtown ATL than downtown B'ham after dark ANY day. That place is like a ghost town with crack zombies after around 7pm.

Glasgow proudly boasts the distinction of being the murder capital of Western Europe.

Yeah for shootings, stabbings and kickings!

Lincoln is #128, Omaha is #217.
I'm amazed Lincoln beat out Des Moines and Sioux Falls for safety, not surprised we are safer than Sioux City

Did Man U put on a promotional tour of Scotland? When'll Wayne Rooney's trial be held?

Survey does not address population density vs crime rate.

I bet there's quite a few small towns more dangerous for the few populace there than big cities are for the respective populace, dependant on neighborhood.

Methnecks are scary, ya know.

I thought they did a pretty decent job with the per capita ratio of populus versus crime statistics. That's how you get Sioux City roughly 80,000 versus NYC 10 million. There are lots of meth heads up there.

Mostly when someone dies in a fracas it is from kicking or stamping to the head. We call such instances "kickings".

Here's some stats from 2003 comparing Glasgow with US cities. Imagine if we had guns!

Detroit pop. 925,000 murders 366
Washington DC pop. 563,384 murders 284
Glasgow pop. 577,869 murders 127
Memphis pop. 653,858 murders 126
Nashville pop. 544,888 murders 74
Denver pop. 565,909 murders 63
Oklahoma pop. 521,681 murders 49
Seattle pop. 576,296 murders 34
El Paso pop. 586,392 muders 21

Doesn't Scotland have a problem with swords? As in carrying big swords around and killing people with them?

Not sure what the minimum qualifying population is, but apparently my suburb (Frisco, TX) is not quite large enough to be eligible. However, the two immediately adjacent suburbs rank #41 (Plano) and #64 (McKinney), respectively. HOORAY FOR SAFETY!
