And you're in active mode, I see. Exxxxcellent.

Can log in from work in passive mode just to survey things.

I had to name a specific port to use through the Network Connection settings [ link ], then relay those to the client.

I hadn't done that because I read (or maybe misinterpreted) in one of the articles that you could leave the port blank and it would grab a random available port.

So, in DC, in oder to do a search I first have to download everyone's filelist? Does that mean I have to download filelists every time I log in to keep up with changes?

Is there an automatic way of doing this?

No, you can search without downloading a single file list if you're in active mode and your ports are set up correctly. If obvious search results like 'Smith' don't show anything, it's probably a port issue.

Well, this was working yesterday, and now it's not. I have the most fucked up router ever. I should demand Verizon give me a good one.

But I won't.

Are you still looking for additional testers?

I'm on soulseek now, but do not have access to forward a port so I can browse people's files or have my files browsed.

Is not being able to forward ports on the router going to be a permanent issue?

I need to try something else. What's the dealio on the DC++ hub?

As far as Sketch being a hub, I don't think he is likely to get into any trouble if access to his files/ file list is private.

It depends on what you mean by 'forwarding ports.' If that means you can't open them up to override the firewall, then yes it's going to be a hindrance on DC++ (not an impossibility, though).

I'll send you an email within the next few hours, Tim.

shoot, there doesn't seem to be a beta version of DC++ for Mac OS X (or 9x) yet.

if anyone knows differently, holler...

go here and scroll down to the second post. theres a link to a good client that im currently using. its a native mac os x version of this client. i could use the official dc client, but as you know, none of the cool kids use the official client. :P oh and i dont believe there are any clients available for os 9, so if thats what youre using, youre out of luck.

That was me shutting the hub down accidentally. Sorry about that. It's back up.

So, is your computer handling the hub related traffic well? Will it be able to handle past the testing phase?

I managed to get it working again, by the way. Again, I don't know how.

Yes, and I don't know. My bottleneck right now is upload bandwidth. The one advantage I have is that I can make it a private hub with registered users and also put a cap on the users logged in at once. I can also limit bandwidth on my DC++ client, but that limits people getting my stuff. I never saw more than 10 people on clevercactus at once, but I'd set the user limit way higher.

I'm raiding your secret stash of Wally Pleasant, and it seems to be working just fine.

On another topic, what firewall are youse guys using? ZoneAlarm is not gonna fly. The FAQ sheets warned against it, but it interferes with my connection, period. I'm not against buying one, probably Norton, but I was curious as to what anyone else was using or recommended.

i just tried dl'ing a full album as a test. i got bumped from the hub shortly thereafter, but i suspect this is all to do with my OS X client, which i'm getting used to...
