Washington DC pop. 563,384 murders 284

Man, I remember when DC was patting itself on the back for having fewer than 300 murders a year. 15 years ago, that was one messed up town, though I went back a few weeks ago, and it appears to be cleaning up nicely. Still, they're ranked 353.

Minneapolis ranked 345. Not good.

Now's as good a time as any to recount the time in 2000 when some dude in a wheelchair tried to steal my wheelchair when he ran into me downtown one dark night.
I dealt with him and didn't relinquish my chair.
Been incident free since then, thankfully.

Bangor ranked really well. That's because Stephen King and Howie Day keep everyone in line.

Honolulu is unranked which doesn't surprise me.

Good economy lately, very low crime rate. There's something about Hawaii that takes the fangs out of everything.

This is one of the best stories ever, since you dealt with him. Had it gone the other way, maybe not. But this way its awesome!

I can't believe Monty is so high on the list. I mean, there are parts of this city I wouldn't venture in at night, and no one goes to public schools, but, srsly, I've never really be scared around here. (knocks on wood)

Yeah, I always had a hard time believing people when they try to tell me it's dangerous.

Although I had some friends living in Old Cloverdale (I think) get their shit robbed a few times.

Boston #314

But the city I deliver mail in is #4.

Watching The Wire has made me wonder if the murder totals they list in the show are for real? I'm on the 3rd season now and I think it was around 260, but Boston last year only had 75.

i think that the part of town where shit goes down is really pretty small, all things considered. I walk around here late all the time and I've never had anything happen. I think that the RVA's propensity for national media caliber murder cases artificially inflates our numbers.

Do you work at the Cary Town location (is that the only location in Richmond...?). I've been to three Plan 9 stores. Charlottesville, Albermarle (Charlottesville) and Richmond. I don't think I ever bought anything, but it's strange that I've been to this record store more than any other and I've only visited the respective locations once.
