I thought they were talking about his reaction to the request for an apology by WH.

Are you on medication? I'm curious. I wonder, do you fly off the handle every time Bush makes an inappropriate remark?

Yeah, they're referring to his reaction to the White House's comments. He's giving them a taste of their own medicine.

Here's what Kerry was supposed to say apparantly:

Quote:
Kerry was supposed to say, "I can't overstress the importance of a great education. Do you know where you end up if you don't study, if you aren't smart, if you're intellectually lazy? You end up getting us stuck in a war in Iraq."

oops

Since the inception of the all volunteer army, the armed forces have been disproportionately working class and men and women of color. Depending on recruiting targets, different branches of the armed services lower their "standards" i.e. sometimes a GED works, sometimes not...

Even in Vietnam and the days of conscription, disproportionate numbers of soldiers in combat were working class, and black or brown. National Guards and other alternative service deferments were similarly disproportionately white and middle/upper middle class. (Don't get me started with W's service record compared to Kerry...).

Here is Kerry's response to the Republican desperate crocodile self-righteouness:

Kerry, a decorated Vietnam veteran and Bush’s rival in 2004, fired back, saying the president and his administration are the ones who owe U.S. troops an apology because they “misled America into war and have given us a Katrina foreign policy that has betrayed our ideals, killed and maimed our soldiers, and widened the terrorist threat instead of defeating it.”

Except you're totally ignoring what Kerry said and gleefully taking it out of context in order to make a MORONIC POLITICAL POINT.

Fucking get it together.

It really wasn't all that bad, Timis, even if you make the conscious decision to keep taking it out of context. Seriously. There are much worse things to get our panties in a wad over.

..for the last time, he did NOT make that statement "about the troops." It is about W. I promise. I wouldn't lie to you. We all love the troops. And god, and the bible an shit.

He'll give you something else to rail about soon enough. Just wait it out.

If Republican voters are as thick-headed as Timis is being right now and can't see how miserably the GOP has performed, this country is in deep shit.

what am i missing then

Initial Statement:
---------------------
"You know, education, if you make the most of it, if you study hard and do your homework, and make an effort to be smart, uh, you can do well. If you don't, you get stuck in Iraq."

Response
------------
Kerry, a decorated Vietnam veteran and Bush’s rival in 2004, fired back, saying the president and his administration are the ones who owe U.S. troops an apology because they “misled America into war and have given us a Katrina foreign policy that has betrayed our ideals, killed and maimed our soldiers, and widened the terrorist threat instead of defeating it. This is the classic GOP playbook,” Kerry said in a harshly worded statement. “I’m sick and tired of these despicable Republican attacks that always seem to come from those who never can be found to serve in war, but love to attack those who did. I’m not going to be lectured by a stuffed suit White House mouthpiece standing behind a podium.”

his first statement was about the troops.....his second was saying that he wasnt going to apologize to the TROOPS for the comment he made and that its bush's fault. thats FINE if he speaks vocally about being against the war, but the comment about the troops then to respond like he did and not apologize to THEM?

btw radcliffe - i am NOT a dumbass......

i think what he said was disrepectful/disgraceful....he DIDNT have to say that and could have stated that he thinks the war was a mistake and this is what we should do.....but he takes a shot at our military.

You realize, (Kerry as a veteran), that your theory is that he's insulting himself, and not that he made a syntax error whilst publicly speaking?

i can't really tell what his point was or if that botched insult story is true. if his point is that military recruitmant tactics are an unfair way to defend our country there are probalby more tactful ways of saying it. but i'm not even sure that was his point.

In that he was an officer? Commanding a small boat under fire isn't the worst assignment, but hardly is it something one could characterize as cushy.

In his inimitable mumble-mouth elegant malapropism... he crossed two observations. First, that the working class (those who don't have the cultural capital to pursue post-secondary education and better careers) serve disproportinately in the armed services. Second, that the Iraq war is really a stupid blunder. Clumsy? Yes. Critical of our troops? No.
