So you buy albums from itunes. They're in this format. You want them to be normal, unlocked MP3's so you can, say, transfer them to your media server over a router.

Is this what WinAMP is for? What's simple, effective, and free for converting such things?

All I can say is good luck. I don't know the answer, and I tried a number of free programs trying to convert the MP4s to MP3s and none of them worked. Maybe there's something out there, but I couldn't find it.

I've always just burned the files to a CD and ripped them back onto the CPU in mp3 format.

I'm trying to avoid this.

Looks like possibly converting through itunes to mp3 is possible..?!

..it's possible if they aren't already locked.

The MyFairTunes dealy linked above looks great. I installed it. It won't run without .NET version 2. I installed that. It won't run without some other windows Installer 2 or something, which requires Validation, and uh.... (cough)winXPCorp(cough) that isn't an option.

FUUUUUUUUUCK.

try this. its a redistributable, so you should be able to get through it without validation.

You can have iTunes make the file names integral with the cd, so when you rip it, the names are in tact.
