Biography
Led by Trinidad-born singer/songwriter Romeo, London's Magic Numbers blend the melodic experimentation of artists like the Flaming Lips and David Axelrod with the sweet harmonies of '60s pop groups like the Lovin' Spoonful and the Mamas & the Papas. Romeo began making music with drummer Sean almost immediately upon moving to the U.K. from New Your City. They were eventually joined by Romeo's sister Michele on bass and Sean's sister Angela on percussion and melodica. The group signed with the U.K.-based Heavenly Records in 2004 and released their self-titled debut the following year.

I really dug their last effort. One of my favorites of 2005. Great bouncy pop songs. My favorite tracks off that one: 'Forever Lost' and 'Love Me Like You.' Good vocal harmonies. I hope this one continues in the same direction. Hopefully a new album means some tour dates. I missed them the last time around. Didn't find out about the record until I read the July issue of Uncut and decided to take a chance. I was pleasantly pleased. I'll be checking this one out later tonight. Thanks Dalen!

I have to say that I think I'm enjoying this more than the debut album. Overall, this album seems more cohesive, but maybe I should go back and play the debut again, it's been awhile. Overall, I feel more impressed by the new album as a gestalt. Now I haven't heard anything quite as immediate as 'Mornings Eleven', but few singles are that catchy so I didn't expect another one in here. 'This is A Song' is a good opener though. I did end up thinking about the Foo Fighters twice. Once because when I saw this first thing, I thought of 'This Is A Call' and was immediately hopeful it would be as good an opener as that one (the other time was on track 3, 'Take A Chance' which cribs the intro of 'Everlong' throughout, it's a great track, both of them actually). 'This is A Song' let's you know what's coming. Nice harmonies, sleepy mid-tempo rhythms, the kind of album I'd personally play in the morning, but only if I wasn't pissed off. Strangely, while it has a nice, comfortable sound, it doesn't make me long for any particular season. It's pan-seasonal, but only in the morning. An enjoyable album. Many thanks, D, as always.

Bump

I really gave this album a listen this weekend after it sort of fell through the cracks. It is damn good, I would probably add it to my top ten for last year if I had actually made a list.
I was listening to it in the car while I was driving around with my siblings on saturday and my oldest sister was also really digging on it, so I know it is poppy enough to intrigue a typical radio listener.

I've had Take A Chance for awhile now and really like it. I wanna hear the rest of the album.

I can't wait to pick this up when it's released. I can still listen to 'Mornings Eleven' on repeat for hours.

I liked their first CD a lot. A lot of the reviews I've read for this one have been kind of mediocre, so I was a bit trepidatious about buying it. But when I got a pre-release on Sunday I was very impressed with it. I think it is even a step up from their first album as a whole, though I haven't noticed any song on the level as the best ones.

Hasn't this thing been out for months already? I've had my copy for at least that long.
