My top three:

1) country/alt-country/americana - most of this stuff just bores me to tears. I'm a sucker for uptempo guitar driven songs and when I hear an acoustic guitar and a pedal steel together I automatically cringe. I am making strides with some Byrds stuff and Gene Clark solo, but I tried and failed with Wilco

2) funk - this is probably because I haven't heard the right stuff. Whenever I hear most of the 70s funk/r&b stuff that my friends play for me, I can't really get into it. I like the Parliament singles, but most of their albums are just a little too ridiculous. Most of that stuff also veers a little too close to disco in the late 70s. Hypocritically (and perhaps racist of me?) I really like a lot of blue-eyed soul.

3) gangsta rap - I have a few of the hit albums, but most of it just doesn't do it for me.

What are yours?

Metal -- I haven't heard a single artist that I can tolerate

Classical -- mostly because I have no idea where to start, what cd's to buy, etc.

Gangsta Rap -- a large portion of the music I love is based in the lyrics. Most gangsta rap lyrics make me cringe or just uncomfortable to listen to.

All this modern crap that tries to be 'punk', but just sounds like a snotty kid whining about having to take the trash out.

aside from country, reggaeton, and noise, i'm pretty open to enjoying anything. i love being surprised by a genre and getting into something new.

and man, some of you are really missing out on some amazing music by being so close minded. :)

I was thinking the same thing.
Wanna YSI him some Toots and The Maytalls or Jimmy Cliff.

Most people that say this have based it on the 2 or 3 songs that get (too much) radio play.

I have always been able to find something from every genre that I like.
But I find Jazz and Classical to be so expansive and intimidating, that it take a lot of digging and guidance to find the stuff that I like.

But I always do.
