I knew of Thai and Indian curries, but not of Japanese.
I was supposed to go out for some today with a Japanese friend of mine from work (he claims to know of a place that has excellent curry, and he would know). But sadly this will have to wait until next week.

Anyone else have Japanese curry?
How does it compare to the Thai and Indian versions?

I haven't had it in years but i remember loving it. I think its a heavier sauce, almost like it has a brown gravy as it's base. I like it a lot more than Thai. I highly recommend the Croquet Curry which is Balls of mashed potatoes stuffed with ground beef and spices breaded and fried and then smothered in the curry sauce. I've been strangely having a major hankering for this for the past two weeks.

That surprises me... the heavier aspect.
I expected it to be lighter. Just the way I think of Japanese food in general, I guess -- what with sushi and all being top-of-mind.

I will look for the Croquet Curry. Sounds yummy. Thanks.

billy's right, it's a thick brown gravy much sweeter and less spicy than other Asian curries, and almost always served with potatoes, carrots and pickled ginger. I'm up to my tits in Japanese curry rue since the in-laws send us a care package every few weeks, so I'd be happy to send you a box (English directions included) if you care to attempt a dinner at home. I never compensated you for the Roy Wood record - not that you should be - so PM me your home addy if you're game, money.

Damn!
I didn't even remember that thread.
An odd portent of things to come, I suppose.

And, my friend had to cancel. Postponed until next week... too much work on his desk.
