The Mos Def album was pretty stupid.

Bjork's effort was boring as hell.

I'm still trying to figure out if I hate the Fiery Furnaces album or not.

Walkmen - Bows + Arrows

'The Rat' is the only good thing they've done ever. The rest of the album bores me to tears.

What what!

I gotta say that a terrible album was Ludacris - Red Light District

Not really disappointing because I hate ludacris more than any other artist (sic)

i thought that the Gwen Stefani "vehicle" L.A.M.B. could have been a decent mainstream release. Alas it was total crap

That's right - I hated that Firey Furnaces album as well...

So many bad things keep coming up that I'm starting to wonder "Where is the love?"...

Oh yeah, this is definitely mine. They reminded me of Enon, except neither of them is cute or Japanese, and they write even worse songs.

Ghostface. Not out-and-out awful, the beats are decent enough. It's got Miss E, so I guess that counts for something. Just a lot of the posturing and boasting that I associate with mainstream hip-hop, and it turns me off.
wow, just wow. i thought that the beats on this were spectacular and that ghost actually showed off some vulnerability with the lyrics. i like that he's verbally, confrontationally boastful in new and interesting ways.

seriously, he's the defenition of unique.

No amount of dislike will make me not like Newsom or Fiery Furnaces, though I admit that both albums are really retarded.

I'd heard good things about it, thought the descriptions would make it something I'd dig.

But fuck it's horrible.

No need for that.

I mean, The Fiery Furnaces are kinda retarded (isn't one of the songs about ADD or something), but I can't really bring myself to hate them. What made their album so frustrating for me was that I couldn't really develop strong feelings for it either way. I wanted to like it at first, but I found that really hard. Then I decided I should hate it, but upon listening to it further, I couldn't really say that it was bad. Eventually I just gave up and quit listening to it. I did the same with Xiu Xiu in 2003.

There's nothing retarded about Joanna Newsom. It's funny that people have such extreme reactions to her voice. As eccentric voices go, it's really not that far out there.

It's not her voice or her harp that I find retarded. It's the sublimely daft lyrics. Not daft as in stupid, but daft as in wee-girl-lives-in-an-imaginary-medieval-fairy-land. I love it. They're over the top but very entertaining and clever.

It's permitted to just not like something.

(ditto Newsom)

Thanks for clearing that up, but my feelings lean more towards indifference than dislike.

And I love the Joanna Newsom album.

edit: but I see you were probably referring to other people's dislike RE: Newsom. I was just stating how I don't get the extreme reactions.

yeah i think that Malkmus, the Fiery Furnaces and Wilco should accept the "troika of guitar wankery suckiness" award.

Add me to the list... I tried and couldn't get it (and I live in the SF Bay Area and eat raw organic foods). But I REALLY hated Keane.

The absolute most grating record i heard all year was this record by a band called the Gym Class Heroes on Fueled By Ramen.

Emo kids rapping to like drums and guitar. It gets worse. They have a song where they namecheck two dozen emo bands in the lyrics, "I'm like, Hey Mercedes, wanna make a Dashboard Confessional At The Drive-In?!"

I want to kill them fucking dead.

Yeah someone posted something about this band the other day and had a link to the video for that song. I turned it off after I figured out what the song was about.

Disappointments for me based on what I expected based on reviews vs what I got:
Keane
the Veils
Magnetic Fields

Veils would win in a showdown. What was the point of that album?

Eminem's "Encore" - I thought The Eminem Show was 80% crap but with that 8 Mile song, he had me thinking he was able to get back on track. Encore is just one hideous fart joke after another and is completely witless.

I really hated that cover of Comfortably Numb by Scissor Sisters.
